NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2017
Tractor and Baler package delivered for Christmas Peter and Jodi Bullen recently purchased Glendene Park on the Boggabri Road near Gunnedah and their aim is to have a commercial Hay producing property with Oaten Hay and Irrigated Lucerne. Peter and Jodi wanted a reliable small square baler and opted for a new New Holland BC5070 high capacity machine. This baler produces small square bales with even consistency in length and weight. The Bullens completed their haymaking package with a new New Holland T6020 Plus tractor. This tractor has a 16x16 Electroshift transmission for even speed matching in the Haymaking process. The tractor is fitted with a Challenge/New Holland AP38S front end loader and 2160mm 4-in-1 bucket. Peter is pictured at the delivery and tractor installation, with the baler to be started in the New Year.

New Holland T7.200 tractor for the Gardner family at Gunnedah The Gardner family have been customers of Goodwin Kenny for many years and have added another New Holland tractor to their farming plant. Steve and his son, Ian, were recently looking to upgrade their existing tractor, a New Holland TS115 which they had purchased second-hand a while ago and they decided a new New Holland T7.200 tractor would be ideal. This tractor has 155 Engine Horsepower and has the 18x16 Range Command Transmission. The tractor has been fitted with a Challenge/New Holland L4200S Front End Loader and 2460mm bucket. The increase in horsepower from their older tractor will allow the Gardners to plant their stock feed with reduced impact over the smaller horsepower machine. Pictured at delivery and installation are Steve and Ian Gardner.

Another Bogballe delivered Craig Daley from Piallaway had been looking to purchase a linkage spreader to be able to get into his crops during wetter times. After looking over the Bogballe range of spreaders he chose a Bogballe 4050 litre M2 Plus. This spreader carries a total of 3037 kg and is coupled with a hydraulic Motor Drive to the spinners, along with E9T Vanes this give a uniform spread pattern up to 36 metre wide allowing in-crop fertiliser applications to be carried out in a productive time frame.
Pictured at delivery and installation are Nathan Daley and Craig. Silvan Brevi Mulcher for the Whittens After a wet winter and a few floods over their creek flats, Scott and Karrie Whitten were looking for a way to work country quickly in 1or 2 passes to get fodder crop planted and established without too much risk of another rain event washing soil away. After looking at options a 3.0m Breviglieri Rotary Hoe from Silvan Australia was chosen and after a chisel ploughing the country should work up to a nice fine seedbed in one working with the Hoe. The Brevi B123-300 is fitted with a crumble roller to set the depth of cut and firm the worked soil down to reduce wind blow and rain wash. Scott is pictured at the installation at Tamworth.

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY - GET YOUR SPRAYER SORTED WITH SILVAN AND GOODWIN KENNY
Work through this simple list to help relieve the frustration!! 1. Check the condition of hoses on the sprayer, look for damage, kinked or pinched sections, deterioration or loose fittings, all these can lead to downtime and loss of chemical 2. Remove and clean all filters 3. Remove, inspect and clean all nozzles, (Tip – an old toothbrush is ideal) rinse them and refit after cleaning the nozzle filters. Nozzles DO NOT last forever – they wear and put out an uneven pattern – 2 years is about the maximum time you will get from a low use boomspray – nozzles can also be worn out and need replacement after just a couple of weeks use depending on the chemical you are using. If you have non drip nozzle bodies you should also remove the cap and inspect the diaphragm, clean and reassemble.
PLEASE run your sprayer and calibrate it with clean water to make sure everything is correct BEFORE you put chemical into the tank.
USED MACHINE DELIVERIES Goodwin Kenny trade a number of machines during the year and these are workshop checked before they are sold and installed to the next owner. We don’t always take photos of these Used Machine deliveries but we do value all our customers and thought we would share a couple of recent deliveries with you. Pictured at right is Tony McCulloch from Garoo Road, Tamworth who has owned a New Holland 644 Round Baler for some time. This year he updated that to a very tidy Case RB454
Round Baler which we started up in the paddock after it had been workshop checked. Tony’s trade machine was sold to a good home at Somerton. Rodney Hartigan is pictured at left at the delivery and start-up of his Used Case DCX101 mower conditioner which had been reconditioned after trading and has now been put to work at Wallabadah. We are always looking for good trades!!

Keeping you up-to-date: “A blast from the past” …..A photo from 1983 of the Goodwin Kenny prime mover loaded with three Shibaura tractors for stock and more recently in 2016 the truck was spotted with a grain bin during harvest near Emerald Hill and the photo was sent to me by Peter and Mark Kenny asking if I thought it looked familiar.
Paul Murphy, our Spare Parts Junior, has decided to broaden his horizons and left our employ on 30th December to go and work in the Northern Territory. His girlfriend, Ellen, left Tamworth before Christmas to start work on Ruby Downs and now Paul will be joining her. I am sure this will be a great experience for them both and we wish them well. Paul told me he had learned a lot during his time with us in 2016 and not all of it about machinery (we have a common love of OLD beer and bad jokes!). Our industry needs more young men like him and we will miss him.
I received this lovely Christmas Card from former staff member Jim Vincent and his wife Marg and thought it was worth sharing. “Christmas Day Picnic Races” was painted by local Gunnedah artist Maree Kelly. The artwork was donated for the cards with the proceeds from the sale of the cards benefiting the Gunnedah Rural Health Centre. What a lovely painting and a worthwhile cause. I hope you all had a good time over Christmas. I spent a quiet Christmas lunch with friends, Tony & Sharon Housden, and Tony’s parents. On Boxing Day I travelled to
Quirindi with a few friends for the Annual Boxing Day Races and the Murrurundi Cup. We had an enjoyable day and didn’t lose too much money on the horses. At right: Amanda Stirling, Cathy & Doug Neill, myself, Barry Cord & Jamie Rutter.
A sad ending to 2016 for the Jarrett family - Vic Jarrett, 89 & founder of Jarrett Implements in 1948, died from a sudden heart attack on 30 December 2016. Vic was known by many friends and business associates as a very caring, humble and generous man. His hard work quickly established Jarrett Implements as a well known and respected manufacturer of agricultural implements throughout Australia. Over the past 10 or so years, Vic was still able to enjoy his lifetime passion as his favourite hobby. Right up to the last week of work for 2016, Jarrett staff would see Vic arrive for a couple of hours to ‘tinker around’ or more often than not grab a broom and sweep up a section of the factory floor. All the staff at Jarrett will miss Vic’s visits, his little chats and sense of humour. Vic’s sudden death was just the way he would have wanted – quick, no fuss and of no burden to others. Professionally, business at Jarrett will be uninterrupted, however there will be a “missing part” emotionally for all the staff and many of the extended Jarrett network. Our condolences to Anthony Jarrett, family and staff at Jarrett.
