Principal’s Message
And lastly……
Reading together- here are some handy hints to connect
speaking to reading:
talk about pictures in magazines, books and on flyers
talk about pictures that don’t have words and think up
words that would make sense - you can write them
down, write them backwards or make up words
together
re-read old favourites together
point out rhymes
make your own books
book talk:
o what will we read about?
o can you choose a just right book?
o look at the cover – what’s this book about?
o what’s happening in the pictures?
o how can we work out the tricky words?
o what’s going to happen next?
o what was your favourite part of the book?
o who was your favourite character?
o If you could change the ending what would it
be?
Happy talking and reading
Moi
Fourth term! WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!
Did you hear the words
‘I’m bored….. during the holidays?
Here’s something interesting about the beauty of ‘being
bored’……
Teach your child to take advantage from ‘being bored’
Children don’t need constant stimulation from adults, screens,
toys etc
Being bored is an opportunity for kids
To be creative
To learn about themselves
To reflect……
Sunsmart
Remember to slip! Slop! Slap!
to enjoy the sunshine without being hurt by it.

News Senior School News (3-6)
Reading Senior students have been working on the CAFÉ reading strategy: ‘Summarise text and include sequence of main events’. They have learnt that summarising is taking sections of text and pulling out the most important parts of what was read. Through a series of lessons (including making summaries of character traits) students have worked to remember, organise, and understand the importance of the information selected. Writing We have returned our focus to persuasive writing this week with a focus on the Seven Steps (Writing Program) strategy to ‘Plan for Success.’ This has involved students completing a sequence of lessons of planning a persuasive text from looking at modelled examples, to brainstorming main ideas, then writing their own ‘Sizzling Starts’ and ‘Ending with Impact.’ These lessons culminated in students completing their ‘Big Write’ (as per our VCOP Writing program schedule) on Thursday. Mathematics In Mathematics, students have focused on their understanding of data interpretation and representation. This has involved students generating their own data (through asking questions and surveys), as well as creating line, column and pie graphs. They have focused on the importance of asking specific questions to collect data. Footy Day/ Circus Performance 20th September:

Pick My Project
Thank you to those who voted for our recent community grant application for the Fairhills Primary Community Exercise
Precinct project. Unfortunately our project was not successful, with other projects receiving more votes from the
community. We received 123 votes, however the winning projects received over 300 votes. Because we rely heavily on
our community members to support this kind of idea, hopefully next time we can round up much more support and many
more votes!
We would like to encourage our community that together, we can achieve great things, but this does rely on all of us
contributing and supporting your child’s school and education. Whether it is a working bee, a performance, a homework
task, promotion of an event, a future grant opportunity, a program, your input and support has significant positive
impact on your child’s education. As our Vision Statement reminds us, we are here to Learn, Grow and Achieve Together.
