The main winter holidays in Britain is Christmas not New Year. For the British Isles New Year is a continuation of the Christmas day.

On December 24 the country’s main Christmas tree is set in the center of Trafalgar Square in London.

Young people tend to go to New Year’s discos, which begin about 8 pm and last until the early hours at the New Year night.

As well as around the world, at New Year’s Eve most people take vital decisions.

The most famous

New Year’s tradition in Britain is a tradition of

the first guest.

If the first guest in your house is a dark-haired man the year will be successful.

In England, the guest brings bread, a piece of coal, a pinch of salt, a symbol of food, warmth and well-being.

Abundant New Year treat is very typical for the people of the British Isles.

Abundance on the table is the base of prosperity for the whole year.

The main dish on New Year table in the Britain is definitely turkey.

The next dish is pudding. Pudding made from bread crumbs, flour, bacon, raisins, eggs and various spices.

A traditional Christmas drink in Britain is punch.

Typically, this is the grape wine (often champagne), vodka or rum, tea, sugar, lemon juice.

The drink is brewed in a silver pot.
