National Award
For Barrier Free town Panchayat
Rehabilitation of disabled people in India is a challenging task. Services
like Diagnosis, Intervention, Education and training are mainly available in
the major cities of the country. To provide the services to the unreached
people, a model Community Based Rehabilitation program was launched
by AYJNIHH, Mumbai in 2001, through Badlapur Town Panchayat in Thane
district, Maharashtra. The town panchayat conducted many rehabilitation
activities for the benefit of the disabled people. The local body of town
panchayat also resolved to collect Rs.10/- per year towards disability
rehabilitation.
The panchayat received National Award, 2002 for creating Barrier free
Township.

National Technology Award for
CROS Hearing Aid
AYJNIHH made many achievements through research in the field
of rehabilitation of hearing impairment. Development of CROS
Hearing aid for the benefit of the hearing impaired people is one
of milestone in the road map of rehabilitation. It fetched the
National Technology Award for the year 2002.
The research was carried out under the project on Development
of modified CROS in hearing aid with indigenous technology for
the benefit of hearing impaired.

India International film festival
'Ability fest-2011'
Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped,
(AYJNIHH) Mumbai bagged the prestigious '60 Seconds to Fame'
at the 4th India International film festival 'Abilityfest-2011' held at
Chennai on 14th Oct. The award was handed over by music
maestro Shri A.R.Rahman at a function, during the grand finale of
Ability Fest 2011.
The film has been made by Professor R. Rangasayee, P.J. Mathew
Martin, R.S. Swamy, Kinjal Shah, and Mohd. Shafique of AYJNIHH-
Mumbai. The digital video film has audio description in English
and closed captions in 16 Indian languages with application of the
concept of universal design, so that everyone can participate in
the National anthem.

Organizations that work towards rehabilitation of persons with
disabilities need to have accessible websites. For its efforts in

Hearing Handicapped, (AYJNIHH) Mumbai received National
Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, 2010.
The National Award was given under the category of Best
Accessible Website among Public Sector/Autonomous/Local
Govt. Bodies. The award was conferred by Her Excellency the
President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, at Vigyan
Bhawan, New Delhi on 3rd December, 2010.
AYJNIHH Bags Award in International Film Festival
Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped,
(AYJNIHH) Mumbai bagged the 'Special Mention' award at the 8th
International 'We Care Film fest' 2011. The award was handed over
by Shri Sandeep Marwah, President of Asian Academy for Film
and Television to Shri V.P Sah, Assistant Director, Eastern
Regional Centre of AYJNIHH, during the award ceremony function
on 4th May 2011 at India International Centre, New Delhi.
National Award for Best Placement
Officer
Mr. Prasenjit Majumdar, Social Welfare Officer, AYJNIHH, NRC,
New Delhi, has been awarded by Govt. of India for Best Placement
Officer. He received the National Award for his excellent
performance in the area of placement of the persons with hearing
impairment. The award was presented by Shri Mohammad Hamid
Ansari, Hon'ble Vice President of India at New Delhi on 3rd
December, 2008.
AYJNIHH Receives International Award
Mr. Rajen Varada, UNESCO-ICT4D-New Delhi hands over the
‘Manthan Award South Asia 2009’ for E-inclusion, to the Co-
Investigators Mr. Mathew Martin, ESA (Mass Media) and Mr.
Rajeev Jalvi, HOD/Audiology for “www.checkhearing.nic.in” a
web based digital product of AYJNIHH-Mumbai.

This is the first website in India for hearing screening.
It is a self-assessment tool for the adults and
parents/caregivers of children/infants.
It is a cost effective screening device with mass application for
early detection.
It uses validated and corroborative tests with development of
inbuilt logic.

National Award for CRC, Bhopal
Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Persons with Disabilities,
Bhopal, has received a National Award "IN PUBLIC RECOGNITION
FOR CREATION OF BARRIER FREE ENVIRONMENT FOR
PERSONS WITH DISABILITES" on 3rd December, 2006. The award
was presented by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Hon'ble President of
India at New Delhi. Dr. Ashutosh Pandit, Director of CRC received
the award on behalf of CRC, Bhopal.
NATIONAL AWARD FOR AYJNIHH
AYJNIHH has set another landmark in providing rehabilitation
services to the disabled. It is a great honour to receive the
National Award for the Welfare of Handicapped in 1996, as one of
the best employers of the disabled. The award was presented by
Hon’ble President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma on “World
Day for the Disabled” on 3rd December, 1996 at Vigyan Bhavan,
New Delhi. Hon’ble Union Minister of Welfare Shri B. S.
Ramoowalia graced the occasion. Mrs Rekha Roy, Director,
AYJNIHH received the award.
National Award for Universal Design in Media
Mr. P.J. Mathew Martin, ESA (Mass Media) AYJNIHH, Mumbai was
awarded the prestigious National Award for Universal Design
'NCPEDP-MPHASIS Universal Design Award 2011'. The Award
was handed over to Shri P.J. Mathew Martin on 14 August at India
International Centre, New Delhi by Shri M. K. Acharya, Secretary
Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India,
Shri Som Mittal, President NASSCOM, Shri Puneet Bhirani Vice
President & Head Business Operations, Mphasis. The award was
recognition of his efforts in promoting Universal Design in Media.
