Mark your calendars! The City’s annual special events calendar is announced on page 14.

Last November I partnered with DM Disposal on one of my favorite activities to organize - the 6th annual Mayor’s Food Drive. I am still in awe at the generosity demonstrated by our community. Our schools, partners, and residents knocked it out of the park by donating a grand total of 23,400 pounds of food – which equates to
40,950 meals! That’s more than triple the amount of food donated during each of the previous five food drives. THANK YOU for helping stock the shelves at the Bonney Lake Food Bank.
I would also like to thank the team at DM Disposal for all their efforts in promoting the food drive, picking up and transporting the food from neighborhoods and local schools, and providing containers to the Bonney Lake Food Bank to store the food until it can be sorted. If you are
interested in volunteering to help sort food, email the Food Bank at BonneyLakeFB@gmail.com.
Thank you to all of the participating schools and partners: DM Disposal, Bonney Lake Food Bank, Bonney Lake Elementary, Donald Eismann Elementary, Mountain View Middle School, Lakeridge Middle School, Bonney Lake High School, City staff, and the Bonney Lake community.
I look forward to hosting the next food drive in November 2020. Stay tuned for details.

Reserve your community garden plotDo you enjoy gardening but searching for a space to do so? The Bonney Lake Community Garden currently has plots available for 2020.
The Community Garden, located at 18421 89th Street East, was established in 2010 to create a positive, group-centered environment where those who simply love to garden can experience community with others of like interest and watch their efforts blossom.
The number of available garden plots is limited so reserve your plot today! A single plot is $25 and a double plot is $50. Senior, disabled, and EBT discount available. Gardeners are responsible for providing their own topsoil or additive, seeds, and tools. Irrigation is provided by the City.
If you are interested in having a plot in the garden, visit the City’s website at www.cobl.us/communitygarden to download and submit a Garden Plot Request form.
Weed abatement spraying program starting soon
• Avoid the spreading of Tansy Ragwort and other noxious weeds.
• Maintain the quality appearance of the City.
Occasionally, property owners with City ROW adjacent to their property prefer to cut the grass and bushes themselves as an alternative to the City spraying in front of their homes. To accommodate interested homeowners, an “Owner Will Maintain Agreement” may be signed by the property owner and submitted at least a week in advance of spraying. The agreement form is available on the City’s website at www.cobl.us/streetsdivision or in-person at the Public Works Center, 19306 Bonney Lake Blvd.
The City will begin its annual spraying program during the month of May, weather permitting. Brush, trees, and other vegetation are chemically controlled along City roads in the Right-of-Way (ROW). This is accomplished following strict application procedures by trained and certified Public Works crew members.
This program is required for several reasons:
• Avoid creation of vehicle and pedestrian traffic hazards from vegetation that is blocking traffic signs or encroaching on roadways and sidewalks.
