• A carbon footprint is the total set of GHG emissions by an individual, organization, or product , reporting in terms of the amount of carbon dioxide equivalent of other GHGs, emitted (kgCO2e).

Carbon Footprint of Products
• TGO and MTEC (National Metal and Material Technology Center of Thailand) launched the “Carbon Footprint of Products” Project in Thailand in 2009.
• Objectives: To promote the use of a carbon footprint on Thai products; which in turn could increase the competitiveness of Thai industries for meeting the global trend market and to provides GHG emission of products to consumers.

Benefits of a Carbon Footprint
• For manufacturers:
– Manufacturers can have a clear picture of their product’s GHG life cycle, as well as plan GHG reductions in each life cycle stage in an effective manner.
– Manufacturers can use this as a marketing tool to demonstrate their commitment to reducing GHG emissions.
• For consumers:
– They may use this information as one of the decision making tools when purchasing products.
– They can decide to be part of the reduction of GHG emissions directly, thus taking part in tackling the issue of climate change more easily.

• We found that manufacturers want the CFP logo for
– Response to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program
– Identify GHG emissions hotspots in their supply chain leading to emissions reductions and cost savings
– Want to increase their export competitiveness
– CFP label was requested by customers in other countries
– Same product by other manufacturers has CFP certified
– Prepare for the possible effects of future regulation
