Week of December 2nd

Bible Verse: “Jesus was born in Bethlehem.” Matthew 2:1

Christian Education:

*We learned about the Angel Gabriel visiting Mary. *We sang Praise songs and watched a video about Mary. *We also learned about some other Bible heroes: Samuel, David, Solomon, Daniel and Jonah.

Circle Time:

*We learned about Jesus’ birth. *We practiced the days of the week and the months of the year. *We learned how to use brave talk. *We practiced our birthdays. We all know our birthdays! Yay! Please continue to help us practice our birthdays so we don’t forget. *We learned about giving, our virtue for December; please help us practice giving at home.

We got to watch Pirate Holiday, the play that the Magik Theatre performed! It was funny and we learned about kindness and giving!

Language Arts/Fine Motor Skills:

* We met Ms. K. She has a “kaboom kick” but she also likes to be kind. * We made K’s with play dough. * We learned how to print a capital K. * We thought of 34 words that begin with K! * We glued chocolate kisses on a capital K. * We made key rubbings on a capital K. * We glued aluminum foil pieces on a key. * We made kites out of triangle pieces. * We colored pictures that begin with K; we had to listen to the beginning sound of each picture. * We found a K on our playground!

STEAM:

* We got to “visit” four countries to learn how children around the world celebrate Christmas! It was so much fun learning about their customs! Ms. Stacie taught us about Germany; Ms. Carrie W. taught us about Australia; Ms. Gisela taught us about Puerto Rico and I taught the children about Italy. * We made a class Christmas chain that is helping us count down the days until our Christmas party. * We practiced tracing the star shape and the number 5. * We counted up to 5 when we put stickers on a kite.

* We made an AB pattern when we made our candy cane ornaments. * We built a trap for the Gingerbread Man using cups, sticks, and paper rolls. * Our “Storytime STEAM Challenge” this week was to build a tall Kapok tree using paper towel rolls and craft sticks after reading The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry. * We made peppermint play dough. Art * We made a star out of popsicle sticks. * We also got to do an art project for each of the countries we visited! We made a gingerbread house for Germany, a sandman scene and scratch art beach ornaments for Australia, a poinsettia for Puerto Rico, and a stained glass nativity scene for Italy. Reminders: **Please donate to our annual fund drive. *Dec. 2- 17 – Student Council Food Drive – 106 – 114 oz. cans only (you can bring them to the Christmas program on Dec. 17.)

*Dec. 13 – Pajama Day! We get to wear our pj’s to school today!

*Dec. 17 - Second Annual Christmas Dinner sponsored by our School Board @ 5:30; please rsvp

*Dec. 17 – Christmas Program @ 6:30.

*Dec. 18 – Teachers’ Luncheon @ 11:30

*Dec. 19 – Our Christmas Party @ 11:00 followed by Early Dismissal @ noon.

*Dec. 20- Jan. 5 – Christmas Holidays; Classes resume on Monday, January 6, 2020
