COMMUNITY UNIVERSITY:Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) is a private Community University licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in Uganda.

MMU was established in 2005 and it is unique in Uganda as it was founded by the community, is owned by the community, is governed by the community and is answerable to the community in the Ruwenzori region in western Uganda. All the surplus funds generated are re-invested in the University.

MMU has over 40 accredited programmes of study and in 2014; it was ranked among the top six Universities in Uganda (webometrics, October 2014) and in 2012, MMU was ranked in top 20 Universities in East Africa (CPS International, Nov 2012)

TEACHING, RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY SERVICE:All of our lecturers are fully qualified and highly experienced in delivering quality education using leaner centred techniques.Thisallowsforamoreinclusiveandproductiveleaning environment which is carried out in adequately equipped facilities at our lake Saaka and Kabundaire

campuses.Students at MMU also have full access to our library which contains over 15,000 volumes of books and thousands more in electronic format to assist them in their research studies.

MMU conducts community outreach programmes in the areas of health, agriculture, business, environment and technology with communities most in need of such programs.

FLEXIBLE STUDY OPTIONS:In order to make our programmes of study more accessible to people, we offer a variety of flexible study options which include Day, Weekend and Distance programmes.

BURSARIES:Being Uganda’s only University, we understand the many challengesourstudentsface.Tohelpeasesomeofthesechallenges, we offer students applying for our Bachelor programs a 25% reduction in tuition fees through our bursary scheme.

Theschemeisaimedatstudentswhohaveexcelledintheirsecondary education but find it a challenge to meet the costs associated with university education. MMU works closely with District Local Governments, Kingdoms and religious organisations across Uganda to assist in identifying these students.

Mountains of the Moon University is located in Kabarole District and its main campus is at Lake Saaka, which is about 8 Kilometers from Fort Portal town.The nameMountains of the Moon was first used in 150 AD by Claudius Ptolemy, a Greek legend, in reference to the possibility of the existence of snow capped mountains and located in the inner Equatorial African region.
