Ronald Tamse (The Netherlands, 1966)
After finishing his study of Urban Planning (1988-1992), Ronald started
working as a traffic designer for the City of Amsterdam. He participated in
several larger projects, like the new North South metro line and
redevelopments in the former harbour areas of the city.
After five years he started working for the City of Utrecht, at the Department
of Town Planning and Development, as a general traffic consultant with
specialization on Public Transport, Traffic law and Road Safety. Ronald lives his
entire live in this city.
The City of Utrecht is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands and has over
300,000 inhabitants. With 65,000 students it also has the largest University in
the Netherlands and the most highly educated work force in the country.
On the West side of the original city is the largest new development area in
the Netherlands: Leidsche Rijn (80,000 inhabitants).
Over 160,000 daily train and 100,000 bus & light rail passengers on weekdays
use the cities main railway station.
The city is an intersection of major motorways and railroads.
Some of the working issues Ronald is participating in, are:
Redevelopment of the Main Station
Several tram studies for the whole of the city.
Consultant for bicycle related issues in both planning and design stages.
Traffic consultant for parking issues in general (in particular bicycle
parking and paid parking in older areas of the city).
Consultant for minor traffic issues in the Northeast and old town centre of
the city. This includes 'citizens participation', parking issues and issues
related to bicycle parking and bicycle use.
Coordinator of legal issues related to traffic and signalization.
Planning studies for the major Ring Roads of the city.

Since 2007 Ronald works on the Utrecht Road Safety Label (UVL). This is a
quality mark for Primary Schools that structurally put effort into the road
safety around the school and into traffic education.
On behalf of the City of Utrecht, Ronald is a member of the Workgroup Road
Safety of the Eurocities Network.
He also gave several presentations abroad in both the English and German
language about UVL, road safety, cycling, public transport and the integration
of different modes of transportation in:
