New Westminster Port. Users are able to interact with the data on the screen through the use and movement of tangible objects
upon a surface.

The largest data region will
provide a map of New Westminster
pinpointing the approximate
locations of ships using simple
symbols

The user is able to decide which information will be shown in the left panel. !

A surface with two tangible objects in the shape of ships will allow users to interact with the program. These objects will be placed on top of a plexiglass surface with a camera beneath, tracking the location of the objects (with fiducial’s on the bottom) and sending the data to the computer.
As the user slides this object along the surface (similar to a mouse) a symbol will appear
in the corresponding location on the map.
!
As the tangible ship comes within a certain distance from
a ship on the map, that ship will increase in size to show
that it has been selected, and it’s data will appear in
the sidebar .

This form of interaction easily allows users to change the data shown on the screen, while tying into the
overall theme. !
The tangible ships may also be of interest to younger children who may not fully understand
what’s going on on the screen.
