Why Use Technology

Research shows that students benefit from a teaching and learning environment infused with technology.

• All students benefit from having access to podcasts, learning materials and vodcasts, and at times that suit their individual schedules. The multimodality of these tools allow students to learn in ways that best meet their learning styles. (Hasselbring, 2001; Swanson &Hoskyn, 1999)

What the heck is a Wiki?

A Wiki is…………• A wiki ( /ˈwɪki/ WIK-ee) is a website that allows the easy creation

and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG text editor. Wikis are typically powered by wiki software and are often used to create collaborative wiki websites, to power community websites, for personal note taking, in corporate intranets, and in knowledge management systems.

• Wikis may exist to serve a specific purpose, and in such cases, users use their editorial rights to remove material that is considered "off topic." Such is the case of the collaborative encyclopedia Wikipedia. In contrast, open purpose wikis accept content without firm rules as to how the content should be organized.

Why use Technology? Why technology?– Engaging– Motivational– Multimodal approach

“A classroom has to have at its core an interest in helping its students to be successful in the 21st century – in work and in play, and in all other aspects of living in a world that promises only change as the norm.”(Solomon &Schrum, 2007 p.3)
