I hope you find the 2014/2015 Winter Leisure Guide meets your needs in
choosing programs and activities that the City of Merritt provides to its residents.
Many of the leisure activity programs and the ongoing upkeep of our facilities fit with
council’s focus on a healthy community and well maintained public facilities.
Council has approved further funding for upgrades to these facilities in 2014 and also
for the completion of Phase i of the Central Park upgrade. We have also included the
full Central Park & Voght Park Plan into our 5 year Financial Plan, which will enable
continuing upgrades and provisions of sport and recreation enhancements to meet
future needs. Staff continues to explore any possible grant funding that would assist
in bringing these projects to fruition sooner.
Please contact our Leisure Services department if you would like to see a certain
program or activity implemented or improved on. This department’s contacts are
located on our website or in the Staff Directory of this guide.
Thank you to the sponsors and staff for your continued support to create a terrific and
informative guide.
Susan Roline ~ Mayor, City of Merritt

Yin Yoga . 14+ yrssession 1: Wednesday, Jan 14 - Feb 25 . 7 wkssession 2: Wednesday, Mar 4 - Apr 29 . 9 wks7:00 - 8:15 pm$52.50/7 wks, $67.50/9 wksPhysically and mentally, Yin Yoga is a completely different system of yoga. Practiced mostly seated, we hold the poses for 3 to 8 minutes. Targeting the hard tissue of body, rather than the muscles, we can greatly increase flexibility and mobility, improving the health of the connective tissue. As we hold the poses, the body becomes uncomfortable and the mind wanders. As we learn to manage this stress on our mats, we can strengthen our ability to manage our daily stresses.
Welcome to Yoga: A workshop for beginnersSaturday, Jan 109:00 am – 1:00 pm$50/sessionThis workshop will cover all the basics of a typical yoga class. We will explore the most common poses, alignment and safety. We will take a quick look at the history of yoga and its modernization. This workshop is a great way to get a head start before taking classes with a larger group. Fitness and flexibility will not be an issue, all we need is a willingness to try something new!
