Measuring Techniques

How to Measure Accurately

Wash Hands

Wash hands for at least 20 Seconds

Liquid Measuring Cup

• Looks like a small glass or plastic pitcher

When measuring liquid

Place the cup on a Level or Flat surface andread the measurement at EYE level

Measurement by cup type

• Liquid • Dry

Dry Measuring Cups

• Final measurement should be level with the top of the measuring cup

• 4 sizes in a standard set

– 1 C, 1/2 C, 1/3 C, 1/4 C

Brown Sugar and Shortening Should be

packed into the measuring Cup

Flour should NEVER be packed, but should be SPOONED into the

measuring Cup

Spoon and Level

Sifted Flour

To sift flour: Sift first, then measure.

Powdered Sugar

• To get lumps out of Powdered Sugar SIFT IT

One Stick of Margarine or Butter Equals

= ½ Cup

4 Sticks of Butter Equals

= 1 pound

16 Tablespoons is One Cup

Use Measuring Spoons When

• When Measuring 1/8 Cup or less

• 4 sizes in standard set

– 1 Tb, 1 tsp, 1/2 tsp, 1/4 tsp

Write this down!Use Most Efficient Measuring Tools

• Use ¼ Cup instead of 4 Tablespoons.

• To measure 1/8 Cup use 2 Tablespoons.

Measure ¾ Cup

¼ Cup + ½ Cup = 3/4 Cup

Never Measure Ingredients Over the Mixing Bowl

Crack Eggs on flat surface and then open into a Bowl

•You won’t get shells in Mixing Bowl

•If Egg is bad, you can throw it away

•without wasting ingredients.

When Cutting Recipe in Half or Doubling

• Amount of Ingredients

• Size of pan

When Using Glass Baking Pans

Reduce the Oven Temperature 25 Degrees.
