MBB: Practice Practical Exam (Head and Neck Anatomy) • Important Notes:

• This exam was created for SMD 23 when we didn’t meet in the lab during the COVID closure. Most of the questions on this exam are duplicates of the questions on thepractice practical exam that is setup in the lab. In addition, this practice exam ONLY contains questions regarding head and neck anatomy (no neuroanatomy).

• To view a video discussion explaining each question, visit this Panopto video: Video Discussion MBB Practical

• If you are asked about an innervation in a question, the question will clearly state whether you should name a CRANIAL NERVE or a NERVE. A “NERVE” is a named branch of a cranial nerve. For our exam purposes, “CRANIAL NERVES” will include V1, V2, and V3. An answer for a “cranial nerve” innervation question will never be trigeminal (CN V).

• The answers are on the last slide (#35). For ease of reference and navigation, the numbering on the answer key correlates to the slide number on which the question is written.

Name the CRANIAL NERVE that innervates the MUSCLE located within the fold labeled by the arrow.

Name the NERVE that transmits sensory information from the area labeled by the arrow.

Name the CRANIAL NERVE that transmits sensory information from the area labeled by the asterisk.

Name the layer of deep of deep cervical fascia that DIRECTLY covers the labeled muscle. Be specific.

Identify the labeled junction.

Name a vessel that passes through the labeled skull aperture.

Identify.

Name the NERVE that transmits general sensation from the area indicated by the asterisk.

An inability to contract the labeled muscle indicates a deficit of which cranial nerve?

Name the CRANIAL NERVE that innervates the labeled muscle.

Name the space into which the labeled sinus drains.

Name the NERVE that transmits preganglionic parasympathetic fibers to the structure indicated by the arrow.

Name one action of the labeled muscle.

Name the ganglion that contains postganglionic neuron cell bodies of neurons that innervate the structure indicated by the arrow.

Identify the labeled space.

Parasympathetic postganglionic fibers coursing with the labeled nerve innervate what structure?

Name the CRANIAL NERVE the provides sensory innervation to the region indicated by the arrow.
