Tips for Business

– WHAT IS IT?

Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, curate, and discover new interests by “pinning,” images or videos to their own or others’ pinboards (i.e. a collection of ‘pins,’ usually with a common theme). Users can either upload images from their computer or pin things they find on the web using the Pinterest bookmarklet, Pin It button, or just a URL.

– WHY IT MATTERS

Twitter faces increasing pressure from Pinterest (15 percent of all internet users) and

Instagram (13 percent), and is still significantly behind Facebook (67 percent usage)

in overall popularity.(Source: Pew Internet.)

Any business that relies on driving a high-volume of website traffic to increase sales,

should consider joining Pinterest. In fact, early research indicates that Pinterest is

more effective at driving traffic compared to other social media sites, even Facebook.

- TIPS FOR BUSINESSFour tips from Pinterest:

• Pin from various sources rather than one specific site.

• Repin rom within the site to engage with others – repinning is one of the most social activities on Pinterest and it's how any user really builds his/her network of followers.

• Create at least a few boards that cover a broad range of interests, rather than maintaining a single board devoted to one topic. Pace your pins so that your followers aren't overwhelmed by too many pins in their feed at once.

• For businesses, pinning can be a great way to highlight aspects of your brand that may not come to mind at first when people consider your brand. Pinterest can also be a great tool to learn what your audience/users/customers want and like.

In February 2012 Pinterest has been driving more referrals to HubSpot’s blog than Google+.

This insight proves that Pinterest presents a serious challenge to other social media channels and offers a competitive advantage to businesses that have started leveraging its potential.
