If you have been on the Camp NorthStar team in the past, thanks! We need your support again. Full-time staff work on planning for the program throughout the year. Camp Counselors pour out their energy each summer to provide the very best for the children we serve. For the second year in a row, the Birmingham-Southern Education Department has recruited Academic Instructors who are Education Students. It’s a great experience for them and is continuing to boost the quality of the academic program for our kids. Church groups commit to a week and provide a fun and impactful week of Bible Camp. Camp NorthStar is helping youth find their direction. When our youth find their direction, we all benefit.
Many of you provide sponsorships to make our need-based approach to fees possible. Whether you have done so in the past or not, please consider sponsoring a child this summer.
Sponsorship is $600 for one child for the summer or $300 for half the summer or $100 for one week.

NorthStar Soccer Club Spring RecapThe spring 2011 season was one of the best we’ve had as a soccer club. Among the highlights from this season are: • U8 teams participating in Homewood Soccer Club’s
Saturday Patriot League learning the basics of soccer AND playing games in the same day
• U10 girls team fi nished second in their GOLD division in the MARS League
• U9 boys were fi nalists in the silver division of the Hoover Havoc Tournament
• We saw consistent participation from all players throughout the duration of the season
• All players learned what it means to play for God’s glory and memorized 1 Corinthians 10:31
• Season concluded with a Club-wide End of Season Celebration at the NorthStar House!

Spring Gala Report

Thanks to everyone who supported us at the Spring Gala on April 14! We had close to 200 people in attendance – our largest crowd ever. Food was great. The auction was fun. Many of you got a good introduction to NorthStar. Others, hopefully, learned some new things about the ministry and what has been happening the past year. Did you like the slide show and Val’s interviews with kids?
The net proceeds from the night were approximately $17,000 – several thousand more than last year.
Couldn’t make it to the Gala? That perfect auction item got away from you? The spirit of the Spring Gala is to support Camp NorthStar. You can still do that! Consider sponsoring a child for the summer. Funding for our summer programs
comes from four streams: grants, Gala proceeds, parent fees, and sponsorship contributions. The rest of May is the time to gather in the spon-sorship contributions. We need an estimated $16,000
to come in through sponsorship contributions. Please pray for this need and please do your part, however small or large.

“I can’t wait for the summer!” Robert* informed me one day when I was giving him a ride home. “Why is that Robert?” “Because we have Camp NorthStar,” he
replied with a tone of bewilderment, as if to say, “Why are you even asking such an obvious question?” Robert is relatively
new to NorthStar. He started with us at Camp NorthStar in
2009. He returned the next summer to Camp and began telling us that he “couldn’t wait until the Fall so he could play soccer” (are you picking up something in this boy’s personality at this point?). Robert is from a single parent household. His
mother works but is clearly lower income. He attends a Birmingham City School. The largest percentage of participants in Camp NorthStar fi t Robert’s general profi le. Robert is who Camp NorthStar is designed for. Robert, and many others like him, is who benefi ts when you become a Sponsor. Help make Camp NorthStar available for Robert by sponsoring a child (or more this summer).
*Robert is not his actual name.
