Thank you for your generous support.
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I hope you weren’t too disappointed with not having my words of wisdom last weekend. As the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Some of you and I hope everyone, will have noticed that there is a second envelope on the 1st Sunday of each month for ‘Parish Building Maintenance.’ I don’t have any major renovation plans in mind, but I am conscious that there is always ongoing small to medium jobs that always need attention. The cost to do them may not be very big but still there is a cost and I am happy to say that at present we are able to cover these costs. The purpose of the envelope is to build up a ‘Rainy Day Fund,’ because in the future there will be big jobs that will need our attention and I would rather have a strong financial foundation to deal with these jobs than starting from scratch. I ask you to please consider giving what you can to this so we can keep St. Mary Church and Holy Assumption beautiful and prayerful places of worship.
I would like to outline some jobs that were undertaken in our parish and have been completed or underway at present. • Removal of old convent building, erecting new wall and seeding of front lawn • New signage at St Mary and Holy Assumption • New roof for lower sacristy/confessional. Painting of walls and new press and wardrobe for liturgical vestments at
St. Mary Church • Soft seating for Chapel of Saints and Holy Assumption • Safety handrails at St. Mary and Holy Assumption. Mobility ramp for Divine Mercy room at Holy Assumption • Removal of security bars on St. Mary Church doors and replaced by panic bars. This was insisted upon by the fire chief • New roof on St. Mary School due to storm damage. This was covered by insurance, but we had to pay $1,000 deductible. • New rectory doors and security camera at the parking lot entrance.
All the above have been completed and there are probably a few others that I have forgotten. There are some jobs underway and some that need to start.
• Refurbishment of sanctuary and mending of sanctuary window due to rain and climate damage at Holy Assumption • Mending rain/water damage at St. Mary Church on food pantry side • Serious water problem in basement of parish office
All the above is very important and should be protected and cared for, and yet it’s not the most important elements of our parish. To me the most important element of the parish is the temple of the body and as a parish how are we caring for it?
I have several proposals going through my mind at present and I will discuss them with our Liturgy Team, and I hope to be able to announce them soon. Some areas I plan to look at and hopefully will be able to address:
• Welcoming of new parishioners • Adult faith development • Religious Education and Youth Ministry • Music Ministry • Days of recollections for all ministry personnel
I ask you at this time to pray to God, our Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide us as a parish family and to pray for yourself that you will have the courage to open your heart and listen to God’s call.
On this Presentation Sunday – take time and present yourself to the Lord.
THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
Thus says the Lord God: Lo, I am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me; and suddenly there will come to the temple the Lord whom you seek, and the messenger of the covenant whom
you desire. Yes, he is coming, says the Lord of host. Malachi 3:1-2

We invite you to pray for our 54 young teens as they take their final steps towards receiving the Holy Spirit. Pray Cards are available in Church. Please take one and pray daily for our teens. CLASS ATTENDANCE Regular class attendance and promptness are signs that parents and students recognize the importance of Religious Education. Our experience has been that if your child does not attend on a regular basis they will find it difficult to understand the subject matter and to keep up with the class. As stated on page 3 of the Parent Handbook – In the event of excessive absenteeism, a child may be delayed in moving to the next level! Email reminders will be going out over the next week for those children that have missed quite a few already. At this time, we are over half way through our program. Each family received a handbook at the beginning of the year. The handbook can also be found on our RE website. FIRST PENANCE Our 2nd Graders will be receiving their First Penance Sacrament this month. Please pray for all our boys and girls that they may open their hearts and minds to this beautiful sacrament of forgiveness. Help them turn to God for forgiveness. Those with true sorrow that confess their sins will be granted absolution.
