What Does Inclusion Mean?
• All staff in a school being responsible for all students.
• Students learning side by side even though they have different educational goals.
• Providing as many special education services as possible within the structure of the general education classroom.
Misconceptions
• Inclusion means co-teaching.
• Inclusion does not exist if a student gets services in the resource room.
• Inclusion means every student in special education has a paraprofessional in the general education
setting.
Goal:
Reach the
90/80 Standard
What is the 90/80 Standard?
The U.S. Department of Education states that the standard for all school systems regarding students with disabilities is 90% of students with disabilities willbe educated in the general education classroom for a minimum of 80% of the school day.
Georgia school systems are currently asked to preparean action plan to address “increasing the time in the general education setting” for students with disabilities. This is in response to the acceptable standard set by The United States, Department of Education.
One way Atlanta Public School is trying to achieve the 90/80 Standard
