Polynomial Basics

Identify the degree of each polynomial, then rewrite in standard form.

1. 15x⁵a + 8x⁴a⁴ - a³x

2. 5x⁴y² - 7x⁵y⁴ + 13x²y⁵

3. 12x³y⁸ + 24x⁶y⁴

Simplifying Polynomials:

Like terms have the same exponent to the same degree.

Polynomial Basics

Add Polynomials by combining like terms, which are monomials that have the same variable to the same degree.

Polynomials:

Unlike adding & subtracting polynomials, there is no distinction between like and unlike terms. The rules for multiplying are this:

Multiplying Polynomials

1. Every term is multiplied by every other term.2. See rule # 1

When multiplying variables with the same base, exponents are added.
