Electrical Lighting, how things change

Alan Collick Electrical Projects Engineer

The early daysThomas Edison patented the first reliable incandescent electric lamp in 1879.

Nothing much changed since then but they have be phased out for more energy efficient types.

Fluorescent TubesThese have developed over the years and have become more efficient and with better quality of light.

High MaintenanceWe replace approx 6000 lamps of all types per year across the sites at a cost of £15000 per year(estimate).

Environmental issuesFluorescent tubes are very environmentally unfriendly as they contain Mercury and other chemicals and have to be disposed of by a specialist company, this costs us approx £2500 per year.

And now the 21st CenturyIn the last few years LED lighting technology, reliability and most importantly costs have improved massively to make them a viable solution for many areas.

MAB Corridors

Versatile control is available “Smart” control systems are available, such as in our office in Cambridge, which have in-built presence and light level sensors to dim or turn off lighting when not needed

Big project on the horizonPeter Taylor House

A likely investment of approx £150,000 to replace the lighting corridors and kitchens.
