DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF MIXING MACHINE FOR FIREWORK CHEMICALS

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY KARNATAKA SURATHKAL, MANGALORE-575025

OBJECTIVE •To design and develop a mixing machine for firework chemicals in

order to overcome the hazards of present manual mixing methodology. SCOPE

•Identification of hazards in firework industry.

•Evaluation of hazards, problem solving (using Fish Bone Technique) and quality improvement

analysis (Quality Function Deployment)

•Development of model using Solid Works 2010

•Design and fabrication of prototype of the mixing equipment(200 gram capacity),

Identification of faults in configuration and rectifying them in the main model with 5Kg operating capacity.

•Testing the machine to ensure safety and proper mixing. •Comparing proposed methodology with present methodology.

Manual method Machine method

Time 35-40 minutes 4-5 minutes

Productivity 15 Kg in 2hours 15 Kg in 30minutes

Chance for Explosion High less

Respiratory problem High less

Skin problem High less

Operating cost Less High

Wastage High No Wastage

FROM THE ABOVE RESULTS, THE FOLLOWING CONCLUSIONS ARE OBTAINED

Safety environment of working

No respiratory problem &

skin problems

No wastage of Chemical

Reduced work timing

Cost of machinery is reduced

Same quality as that of manual

mixing is obtained.
