Police Bureau

• Specialized Units within the Police Bureau include:– Traffic Enforcement / Tactical Unit– K-9 Unit– SCUBA Unit– DARE Unit– SWAT– HDS (Bomb) Squad – HRT (Hostage Recovery Team)– Warrant and Vice Units– Intelligence Unit– Snowmobile and Motorcycle Unit

• Must have satisfactorily completed probationary period.• NYS Police certified• Willing to relocate to Monroe County

Command Staff Interview• The oral interview allows the command staff

an opportunity to meet the candidates before selection.

• Candidates will interview with several MCSO Police Bureau Command Officers.

• The candidate should be prepared to discuss his or her interest in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Medical

• The medical exam will ensure the general health of each candidate.

• Applicants will undergo a complete physical, which will include a pre-employment drug screening.

Psychological

• The psychological exam will include:– Written psychological exam– Oral psychological exam

• Written exam can take up to eight hours while the oral exam usually only lasts thirty minutes to an hour.

• Written and oral exam will be administered on different days.

Background Investigation• A background investigator will meet with the

respective candidate and review the completed booklet.

• The investigator will verify the information provided to him/her by the candidate, as well as their qualifying credentials.

• The investigator will also conduct a pre-employment criminal history check and interview at least three personal references.

• The background investigation is extensive and any untruthfulness will be cause for removal from the process.
