Marquette Frye, an African American male

Lee. W. Minikus, a Caucasian male, worked for the California Highway Patrol

Minikus pulled over Marquette Frye on suspicion of driving while intoxicated

A crowd of people gathered at the scene where Frye was being arrested

A confrontation began between the crowd and police officers, that were on the scene

WATTS is a part of South Central, Los Angeles

It is described as a ”deeply impoverished African American neighborhood”

Riots began in this area after the arrest of Frye

Riots took place in WATTS for 6 days

The riot destroyed: cars, grocery stores, department stores, and pawn shops

$ 40 million of property was destroyed

14,000 California National Guardsman were sent to WATTS

A curfew was put into place, to stop the rioting

34 people died 1,000 people

injured 4,000 people

arrested
