Learning Objectives:Utilizing this lecture, material from the FTP site, and other

references, the student will be able to:

• understand and articulate some of the conditions and constraints typical of an urban Native American artifact site on a designated Wild and Scenic River

• conceptualize complex combinations of resistive, bioengineering, and redirective methods to successfully stabilize an eroding bank and manage stream energy and the thalweg without adverse conditions downstream of the project

Considerations• Established 120 ft wide riparian corridor down to 60 ft

wide in spots• Park Lands so aesthetics and safety are concerns• Maintenance house is in danger of falling in the river• Drainage pipes and collector have fallen in river• T-box and sections of golf course are endangered• Designated Wild and Scenic River• Native American artifacts (fire pits, etc) in bank - goals are

no disturbance of bank face or overbank area and possible protection of these resources

• Existing riprap has caused a deep scour and a large deep downstream eddy

• Downstream (project exit conditions) are a concern
