• can mean different things to different people, and in different circumstances

has been released in 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2010
• Produced by the Social Disadvantage Research Centre at Oxford University
• Commissioned by the Department for Communities & Local Government (DCLG)
• It is the official measure of deprivation in England

IMD is a powerful tool• Data is provided at a very small
geographical level called Lower Super Output Area (LSOA)
• They have a minimum population of 1,000 and a mean population of 1500.
• There are 32,482 LSOAs in England
