Level 1• Enter the water unaided from side or steps

• Breath control holding the side of the pool, submerge face three times rhythmically exhaling beneath the surface

• Push off from wall, glide on back, arms by side for 2 metres

• Regain a standing position from swimming on front and back

• Leg propulsion on front and back holding floats / woggle for 10 metres

• Get out of pool from the side

Above all to be done without armbands to pass

Level 2• 10 metres front paddle

• 10 metres back paddle

• Breath control holding float(s) kicking for 10 metres

• Push off from the wall, glide on front, arms extended in the water for 2 metres

• Star float front for 5 seconds

• Star float back for 5 seconds

• Swim through a hoop

• Sit on thee bottom of the pool

• Get out of the pool from side unaided

Level 3• 20m front crawl (arms must come out of the

water for the 20m distance swim, on the non breathing side the arm may paddle during breathing, legs may drag and when arms come out the water, and face must be in the water and attempt to breathe to the side, lifting head and turning is acceptable at this stage)

• 10m back crawl (arms need to be straight and enter the water in line with the body they may be hesitant and stop at the sides, legs may still drag or knees break the surface of the water)

• 10 metres inverted breaststroke (feet must kick around in a full circle in the correct direction and feet must be turned out)

• Push and glide on front for 3 metres

• Push and glide on back for 3 metres

• Swim through a submerged hoop

• Pick up an object from the bottom of the pool with both eyes open (no goggles)

• Half a width front crawl roll onto back and continue with back crawl to complete the length

• Mushroom float for 4 seconds, face down in a tuck position, hands clasping lower legs one hand on each leg (no goggles)

• Push and glide to a mushroom float

Level 4• 25m front crawl (arms must continually come

out the water, not breathing arm must clear the water, breathing face must be in the water and turn to the side to breath, body may rotate).

• 10m breast stroke (arms must pull in circle in front of the body, legs must kick around in the correct direction, feet must turn out).

• 10m back crawl (arms must be straight and they must enter the water in line with the body with little finger first, exit the water thumb first, arms must show a continual movement, legs must be straight and in line with the body).

• Push and glide through submerged hoop and pick up an object

• Mushroom float for 6 seconds extend to a push and glide

• Tuck float on back for 10 seconds

• Get out the pool unaided from the side

• To go in deeper water for confidence and treading water

Level 5• 50m front crawl (arms must show they exit the

water elbow first, fingers must enter the water first in line with the body, legs must be straight and in line with the body, breathing should be done with minimum interruption to the stroke without over rotating)

• 20m back crawl (the complete stroke should be propulsive and flowing)

• 20m breast stroke (arms must pull in a circle in front of the body, arms must be straight and together during the glide phase, one arm pull to each leg kick, legs must be straight and together during the glide phase, feet must be turned out, legs should be symmetrical and screw kick must be worked on to try and eliminate)

• Forward somersault in the water

• Handstand in the water

• Pike float for five seconds

• Push and glide to the bottom

• Head first surface dive and pick up an object

• Tread water for 1 minute • 5m Dolphin leg kick without floats

Level 6• 100m front crawl (the complete stroke should

be propulsive and flowing)

• 50m back crawl (the complete stroke should be strong and with good technique)

• 20m breast stroke (legs should perform a good kick giving a good propulsion through the water, breathing should be in time with the leg and arm actions)

• Surface dive head and feet first, pick up an object

• Somersault in water forwards

• Straddle jump

• Head first and feet first sculling for 5metres. • Hands scull (without use of legs) body straight

and horizontal

• 3 metres underwater swim

• Tread water for 2 minutes

• 10 metres dolphin leg kick without floats

Level 7• 400 metres in a mixture of front crawl, back

crawl and breast stroke, must be strong propulsive and flowing with breathing.

• Basic tumble turn in on front and out on back

• Head first and feet first sculling for 10 metres

• Surface dive, swim through hoop-pick up brick 3 metres away, carry brick back on chest using life saving leg kick

• Tread water for 3 minutes with one hand behind back.
