Lesson No. 6

LUKE

KEY WORD—“COMPASSION.”

KEY VERSE—Luke 19:10

KEY PHRASE—“CHRIST IS THE UNIVERSAL SAVIOR.”

WRITER—Luke was a native of Antioch n Syria, and in Colossians 4:14 is called the beloved physician. He is the only one of the Bible writers who was a Gentile. As a companion of Paul in his missionary journeys he was with him in his first and second imprisonments in Rome, and remained faithful to him when others forsook the apostle. He was a fellow-laborer of Saul and so had abundant opportunity of learning all about Christ’s life and teachings. It was probably at Paul’s earnest request that Luke wrote the gospel in 63 A.D. and also the Book of Acts about 64 A.D.

PURPOSE—To show that the infinite love and compassion of Jesus was not for the Jews only, but for all mankind.
