Lesson 19 Additional ActivitiesWelcoming

Helpful Hint: Consider purchasing erasers in various colors. It is a cost-effective way to have the children work on their pre-math skills. Picking up small items like erasers will also help the children develop their fine-motor skills.

Materials

Liturgical Calendar Banner o hole puncho permanent marker

For each child:o 9" x 12" stiff felt

in white or other light color for the banner

o 18" white ribbono felt in purple,

white, green, and red cut to the template pattern

o small amount of gold felt to decorate or add to the white felt

o white glueo brass brado stiff felt in black cut according to the arrow

templateo small homemade labels printed with the

following: Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time (x 2), Lent, Triduum, Easter, and Pentecost

Variation: o Foam sheets can be used in place of felt

Before the lesson:

• Cut purple, gold, green, red, and black felt pieces according to the template.

• Print homemade labels with the following: Advent, Christmas, Lent, Triduum, Easter, Pentecost, and Ordinary Time (x 2).

• With scissors, punch a hole in the center of the banner and on the end of the black arrow.

• Punch holes on the upper corners of the banner and tie a ribbon so that the banner can be hung.

Exploring

Liturgical Calendar Banner

• Have the children write their names on their banners.

• Show the children how to place the pieces on the white or light-colored felt banner and glue in place.

• Using the brass brad, affix the black arrow on the banner, pointing it to the correct season.

• Have the children label each color with the appropriate liturgical season.

• Encourage the families to hang the banners and keep track of the season.
