Work Strong Your Personal Career Fitness System

Career Fitness Principle #1

“You are the captain of your career and the keeper of its health”.

Hopefully this is not you….

As captain of your career, take initiative and plan for your success. Seek employment that allows you to succeed and show your personal best.

Look for a job that makes you leave your comfort zone and challenges you. “Elevate your game”.

Find a career mentor…

A successful career wont happen in the 21st century because you do good work for your employer.

Instead, do good work for you. It will challenge you and improve your work quality. This practice also improves your marketability.

New Career Imperatives Job security has become an artifact of the past.

Career security is the safety net of the 21st century.

-sense of pride and fulfillment

-networking

-allows for occupational strength, agility, and endurance, and mentorship

Career Principle #2

“You must exercise your freedom to experience the best of what’s inside you”.

Always consider your options… Be an Advocate FOR YOUConsider….

1. Asking to redesign your job.

2. Different working arrangement (part-time, contract).

3. Changing conditions under which you work (flex-time, telecommuting etc).

4. Seeking a new job with same employer.

4 Risk factors that weaken or wound your career.

Lethargy- being indifferent to your career or too lazy to do anything about it.

Habit-so comfortable with routine refuse to change.

Fear-avoiding challenges

Self-satisfaction- being so content with accomplishments stop striving for more.

Is this you in the morning?

“Until you find that work you enjoy, enjoy that work you find”.

Career Fitness Principle #3

“Stretching yourself to achieve a healthy career doesn’t hurt, but instead, empowers you to feel happy.”

Think no pain…….no gain principle

Think of a time you found something you loved by trying it even though you didn’t want to…..

Trying something new isn’t so bad…

“What we call creative work, ought not to be called work at all, because it isn't. I imagine that Thomas Edison never did a day's work in his last fifty years.”

Finding career and life fulfillment Research suggests that its not a job that is rewarding

but our work….

Several studies confirm most people are most satisfied with their life during their work day and also when they are being challenged.

“Don't set compensation as a goal. Find work you like, and the compensation will follow.”

Career Fitness Principle #4

“Your best work never ends, nor does your responsibility for performing it.”

Your career fitness future….. Remember life and Work is a process and a journey.

Think of learning daily lessons and mastery.

Set goals and timelines.

Fight negative self-talk.

Find your passion and think TQI

Being the best you can be so………

JUST Do It!!!!!!!

Final Thoughts…….. “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was

about to begin--real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”

-Alfred D. Souza

Never stop thinking about the impossible……..

Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. --
