FOREWORD
According to Berry et al (2002:7), small enterprises play an important role in the economy of every country and the growth of the small enterprise sector has a direct impact on the national GDP as almost all small enterprises are domestic firms (Kotelnikov 2007). Small enterprises include small, medium, micro and even survivalist enterprises. Many lack the skills, support, finance and other resources necessary to run their businesses. The Seda Learning Academy’s training and capacity building programmes are designed to ensure that Small Enterprises receive quality, relevant and professional services from both Seda Practitioners and its Service Provider Network.
Accredited by the Services Seta in 2010, the Academy’s offerings cover a wide area of Practitioner skills, competencies and tools needed to support Small Enterprises from start-ups to export companies. Because of its unique needs based programmes, the Academy’s services are in demand from within and outside our borders, and it is for this reason that national and international partnerships have been developed by the Academy to optimise its service delivery and offerings. We trust that the Academy will go from strength to strength in the interest of a vibrant, prosperous and strong small enterprise sector in South Africa.
John Francis: Head - Seda Learning Academy
