Leadership Defined Leadership is the capacity to lead. To lead is to show the way by going in

advance or to guide action. Many jobs in Agriculture are too big for one

person, we must use the help of others. In order to lead we must have the

knowledge and skills necessary to complete the task. As well as the people skills to organize and manage the task with others.

Practical Leadership How would you use the knowledge and

skills of others to achieve a common goal in…

Everyday Life? Sports? Agriculture?

What does leadership look like?

The combined knowledge and skills of many can accomplish tasks that one man could not.

The Key to successful leadership.

Every Leader needs a plan. The difference between a dream and a

goal is a plan. A plan is a procedure determined by

thinking through the possibilities. What do you do after you have a plan?

Work the PlanManage the people, resources and processes to reach the goal

The Traits of a Good Leader There are eight traits that good leaders have

in common. 1. Citizenship 2. Integrity3. Knowledge4. Courage5. Tact6. Enthusiasm7. Unselfishness8. Loyalty

Citizenship

local wildlife, tutoring other students. What role does citizenship play in the

group dynamics of an Ag Project or team?

Integrity Honesty A dishonest leader will not have

followers for long (unless they are idiots).

What role does honesty play in your peer groups?

Knowledge Familiarity, awareness and

understanding of the goal or situation. Without the knowledge it take to reach

the goal, the other skills are meaningless.

Are you prepared to lead?

Courage The willingness to proceed under

difficult conditions. Courage is being scared to death and

saddling up anyways. –John Wayne What good is a leader that quits when

it gets tough? It takes courage to succeed in

anything.

Tact The skill of

encouraging others, the opposite of rude.

In order to get the most out of your team they need to know that you support them.

Enthusiasm Inspirational energy

to get the job done. Does the attitude of

the leader have any effect on the team?

Unselfishness Placing others equal

or above yourself. True leaders

recognize the importance of the group.

What does it do to a group of people when one person takes all the credit?

Loyalty Reliable support for an individual,

group or cause. Loyalty to employees promotes loyalty

to the company which in turn promotes sales and growth.

How could a business leader promote loyalty among customers?

Employees?
