Parent Newsletter
Dear Free State Parents,
The importance of school attendance has been well documented with a high correlation
between academic performance and success. Even an excess of excused absences can
be detrimental to student success.
What can parents do to help?
· Parents must model the value of education, including the importance of regular
attendance.
· Make sure that your student goes to school regularly and arrives on time-you will
establish a good habit that will carry through life.
· If your student starts missing school, work with the school to put things right. Make
sure your student understands that you do not approve of him/her missing school.
· If your student is ill or must miss school for some other reason, contact the school
immediately. If you ask for homework, make sure your student completes it.
· Do not expect the school to approve of shopping trips during school hours.
· Whenever possible, arrange family vacations during school holidays so that
students miss as little school as possible.
· Take an interest in your Student's school work and be involved in the school as
much as possible-your child will value school more if you do.
The vision at Free State is to expand and strengthen collaborations with parents, volunteers,
business and community partners and others to support student achievement by identifying
mutual needs and opportunities for collaboration and partnerships. To complete this vision
we have set goals for parental contacts and the engagement of the community in the
learning process. With recent loss of the Booster Club, the school Site Council has
engaged several parents in a discussion to create a Firebird Family Group. The first meeting
is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7th from 5:30 to 6:30p at Free State High School. Enter the
main Commons Area; we will then announce where we will be meeting.
As we approach the winter break we would like to thank those of you for taking the
opportunity to attend parent-teacher conferences last month and those of you that
supported the many fall activities.
Together, we can make a positive difference.
Sincerely,
Myron Graber FSHS Principal

NCAA/NAIA ELIGIBILITY
NCAA eligibility guidelines change often. It is the responsibility of the student athlete to ensure that they are
meeting NCAA/NAIA eligibility requirements. Even though it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that
NCAA/NAIA eligibility requirements are being met, student athletes that plan to play college athletics or are
being recruited by colleges for athletics are advised to let their counselor know of these intentions.
