- Fossil Foraminifers in the area
will provide biostratigraphic
control for structural
interpretation.
- Petrography of the carbonate
samples will enable
classification of sedimentary
facies and interpretation of
palaeo-depositional
environment.

Carbonate Petrology Structure interpretation
Khammouan Formation
“Khammouan Limestone” forms the core of a NW-SE trending anticlinal structure flanked by non-marine Mesozoic strata
Mississippian Foraminifers
Pennsylvanian Fusulinids
Early Permian fusulinids

Carbonates were accumulated on a
huge carbonate platform of shallow-
marine conditions with different sub-
environments
: very shallow marine in high-energy
settings or ooid shoals
: open marine and platform interior environment.
- More information data on biochronological significance:
Mississippian, Pennsylvanian and Early Permian.
- Orientation data and biochronological data obtained in this study
led to the interpretation of additional reverse faults.
- Depositional environment: huge carbonate platform of shallow-marine conditions with different sub-environments.
