District of Innovation Adoption Process

Resolution• The process begins with a board of trustees adopted resolution.

Public Hearing

• The board of trustees conducts a public hearing.

Committee

• The board decides to pursue or decline pursuit of District of Innovation.• The board appoints an Innovation Plan Committee to create a District of Innovation Plan.

Post Plan• The plan is posted on the district website for thirty (30) days.

Plan Adoption

• The Chapter 11 District Committee holds a public meeting to consider and approve the final version of the District of Innovation Plan with a majority vote.

• The Board of Trustees votes to approve the plan which passes with a two-thirds majority vote.

May 11• The DEIC held a public meeting to discuss the District of Innovation Plan. The DEIC voted unanimously to take the plan to the

Benefits of Becoming a District of Innovation

Start and End Date

• Develop a calendar that meets the needs of LWISD students to include increased instruction and remediation .

Certifica-tion

• Place quality instructors in every classroom, including professionals in trades and vocations for increased college and/or career readiness.

Class-Size Waivers

• Omit sending waivers to TEA when class size exceeds the 22:1 ratio in order to use resources wisely.

Instructional Minutes

• Allow for flexibility in instructional minutes for additional student and teacher support.

Attendance for

Credit

• Exempt the 90% seat time and focus on mastery of standards.
