Laboratory Notebook

• This is an example of what a laboratory notebook should look like.

• What is most important is that you use a laboratory notebook to keep notes as you do your experiment.

• Everything you think or do should be captured in your laboratory notebook.

• Good luck and have fun!

• Information in this blue font are not actually part of the notebook.

Science Experiment Laboratory Notebook

General Guidelines: • Work should be done in ink. • Do not remove any pages. • Mistakes should have a

simple line through them. Do not erase or use anything to cover them up.

• Write EVERYTHING in the laboratory notebook.

• You can use the book for more than one experiment.

Some suggestions: • Do an experiment that you

want to do – One where you want to know the answer or see the results.

• Demonstrations, research projects, and models do NOT do as well in the judging process. Pick a project requiring repetitions.

4/23/2014 Ideas for projects for this year: • How fast does grass grow?. • Is it always cloudy when it

rains? • Why is the sky blue? • Volcanos • How clouds form

ABC (initials) Note: Do NOT do one of these as your Science Fair Project.

5/7/2014 Notes from Research

• Water, as a gas, is in the air.

• This water gas condenses in the air and forms clouds.

• Nimbostratus and Cumulonimbus clouds cause rain.

• These clouds produce rain, snow, hail, or sleet.

5/10/2014 Materials/ Equipment

• Laboratory Notebook • Pen (not pencil) • The computer to access

www.weather.com to check if it will rain today.

ABC

5/10/2014 Process Steps

• Check www.weather.com to

see if it is going to rain today.

• If it is raining, go outside and see if there are clouds in the sky.

• Write the information in my laboratory notebook.

2/15/2015 Future Work

These are ideas that I might do next year: • How to make snow flakes. • Where does hail come from? • How does water gas get in

the air? ABC

Note: Do NOT do one of these as your Science Fair Project.
