Congratulations to our dancers who performed at Hunter Dance Festival last week. Your performances were very professional and your behaviour made you wonderful school representatives. On behalf of all our dancers I would like to thank Miss Hanna for all the work she did in choreographing the routines, preparing costumes and training our dancers. Being selected to perform at Hunter Dance Festival is an honour – all the audition tapes are judged by a committee and performance groups are chosen by the committee. Unfortunately this year our Year 5 group missed out on performing at the festival but we were lucky enough to see their performance here at school yesterday.

Year 5

Over the next two weeks our Public Speaking finalists will be competing in the Westlakes Zone finals. I have been lucky enough to hear some of our students speak and they were very impressive. Well done everyone. Good luck to Leo R, Bowen R, Oskar L, Iona Mc, Oliver C, Eric H, Alex C and Allanah S.

Late yesterday afternoon we were notified that our canteen has been awarded “Healthy School Canteen” status. This program is part of the Premier’s Priorities and all schools are required to reach this goal by the end of 2019. It has been a long road but we made it! Thank you to Mel F and Jane M for all their work over the last 2 years – yes, it has been a long process.

You Can Do It! This week Stage 2 and 3 students are learning to place their emotions on the “Emotional Thermometer”. This special thermometer represents the intensity of a given emotion and can be used to determine exactly how upset you are when something difficult or challenging occurs. The numbers on the thermometer relate to the strength of our emotions. The number 1 indicates the lowest level of emotion; the number 5 indicates medium level of emotion; the number 10 indicates the highest possible level of emotion. Although we all feel emotions, not everyone feels the same way about things that happen. People can feel differently about the same event because they think differently about it.

There are times when common, everyday events can cause our emotions to become really, really strong, which often negatively affects how we think, feel and behave. The important thing to remember is that everyone has choices in how upset they become. By using an Emotional Thermometer, you can tell how upset you are in a situation.
