Angler AlertTe 33rd Annual Kootenay Lake Easter Dolly Derby
(bull trout) will be held Friday, April 3 through Sunday,April 5 at Woodbury Resort and Marina.
Due to declining kokanee stocks caused by an over-abundance of predators, including bull trout and rainbowtrout, derby participants will be able to weigh in one shper day, instead of one sh for the tournament. Te win-ner per ticket rule will still be in effect. Also, the WestArm of the lake will be excluded for the shing area.
In past derbies, seven sh were the most ever entereddue to the one sh per ticket rule. All biologists seem toagree that the shortage of kokanee is directly related to anoverabundance of large predators. Kootenay Lake anglers,do your part and catch and keep a few dollies this spring!

Herald Spring Tis spring equinox on Saturday, March 21 is only one
of several events taking place to herald spring 2015. Teseevents start with the new moon on Friday, March 20 and asolar eclipse, two events which should stir up the cosmo-logical dynamics; followed by the spring equinox of equalday/equal night on Saturday, March 21 and World WaterDay on Sunday, March 22!
If you’ve been feeling a quickening in your blood, it couldbe more than just a touch of spring fever! Tere’s a lot going
on! We are all inuenced by the movement of the planets,we are made up primarily of water, just see what the moon’spull does to the tides, the evidence is there for us all to see.
So what do we do when we feel the strong movementof change within us? Do we sit in discomfort and go intomoody reaction? Do we suppress the feelings and fall backinto familiar routines and patterns and pretend we aren’tfeeling anything? Or do we embrace the changes we arefeeling, and welcome in the movement even if we don’tknow where it is leading us?
Te new moon, eclipse, equi-nox – these are all events that areout of our control, even as we areinuenced by them. One thingwe can do is celebrate them! Andthat is what we propose to do forthe spring equinox and WorldWater Day!
Te community of Nelsonloves celebrations, and everyspring equinox there is a cele-
bration walk held at the LakesideLabyrinth in Lakeside RotaryPark (under the Big OrangeBridge). Tis year the walk willbe held on Saturday, March 21at 1 pm. Everyone is invitedto come and walk in commu-nity celebration of the return ofspring, and to bless the healing,life-giving waters that we are sofortunate to be surrounded with.
Te labyrinth has been known, since ancient times, as a sacredsite that is symbolic of bringingabout transformation and con-nectedness with one’s inner self.Come and shed the weary win-ter and nd that inner balancewithin yourself, just as day andnight nd their balance. Bringyour water to be blessed, bringyour garden seeds to be blessed,
bring yourself to be blessed.Tis event is hosted by theNelson Community LabyrinthGroup, and is free of charge foranyone of all ages to attend. Formore information about laby-rinths and this group check outwww.labyrinth.kics.bc.ca
