Installation of Officers Councils 10681 and 6232

Christopher Columbus Council 10681 held their installation of Executive Officers and Awards Night last September 6 at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Council Chaplain Rev. Arthur Gouthro led the prayers and blessed the newly installed officers. Grand Knight Federico “Bing” de Castro is standing between Fr. Gouthro and State Council Warden Koon Ming Lau, who was the keynote speaker during the Awards Ceremony that followed. (Photo Credit: Edgar Ursua)

Bishop Courdet Council 6232 held their installation of Executive Officers last September 27 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Whitehorse, Yukon. Their council is part of District No. 23, that is why District Deputy #23 Kevin Mendonça and District Warden Alberto Nisperos had to fly up there for the weekend. (Photo Credit: Bridget Mendonça)

Above, our husband-and-wife nursing team Randy and Gaizel Aclan give service with a smile to GK Lorenzo Ranada and Bro. John Ty while John takes a break from pancake breakfast duties.

Our “body is a temple of the Holy Spirit...” (1Cor.19) May we be pure in body, heart, mind and soul...

SARAH is the legacy of Dr. Larina Reyes-Smith, addictions specialist and formerly a parishioner of St. Paul. She has since moved on to Mission, BC to be closer to her Surrey practice and to Westminster Abbey where she spends a lot of time in support of vocations. Below, SARAH’s motto:

Life in the Spirit Our intercessory prayers are requested on behalf of the Life in the Spirit Seminar series running Tuesday nights from October 14 to November 25. Please offer up your prayers, fasting and sacrifices for the Candidates, Speakers,

Sponsors & Volunteers, that the Lord will fill them with His Holy Spirit and work in each one, and through each one, to bring to fulfillment His Purpose in this Seminar.

Noteworthy

Bro. Mike Stanley thought he was tall until he tried to measure up to this sun-flower at St. Paul Church. What does caretaker Bro. Eddy Lim feed this thing?!

Bro. Ernesto Danoog had a very good excuse for being missing in action at St. Paul’s: he and wife Consuelo flew 10,000km to the Philippines to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on the 10th of September. Happy Anniversary, Brother!

Columbus Charities Association held its Annual General Meeting last Septem-ber 23 at Immaculate Conception Parish Hall in Delta. CCA is the organization behind the Knights of Columbus seniors housing in Vancouver, Chilliwack and Delta, an important facet of our charitable works. As Council Directors for CCA, Bro. Rod Winning and GK Lorenzo Ranada cast votes for the 7-member Executive. Find out more at their website www.colchar.org.

State Deputy Edward Shawchuck presented the Insurance Award to IPGK Kev-in Mendonça last September 13 during the Calypso! dinner and dance.

Right Here, Write Now! Rehearsals

Our mother-daughter number proudly draws on the talents and enthusiasm of the daughters/granddaughters of many Brother Knights, including Micah Mesa (Eugenio’s granddaughter), Kathleen Marcelino (Ron’s daughter and Manuel Canita’s granddaughter), Morgan ter Stege (Bernard’s daughter), Brielle Garcia (Gilbert’s daughter and Pol’s granddaughter), Katherine Welbanks (Doug’s daughter), and Anne-Marie Macken (Patrick’s daughter). Not in photo: Naomi Henry (Alberto Nisperos’ granddaughter). Never too early to plant the seeds of volunteerism and commitment.

Kathy and Karen Mahoney generously provided the refreshments for over 45 performers at the September 21 rehearsal at St. Paul’s Gym. The kids were hooked on the healthy rice crackers with veggie topping that they prepared along with skewered fruits, sandwich assortment, dessert bars… Can’t thank you enough, Karen & Kathy!

The girls (Anne-Marie Macken, Morgan ter Stege, and Kianne Facun) reassure Kara (Tricia Jose) that no problem is too big to handle when there’s someone right next to you to share the load.

Rehearsals always begin and end with prayer, lifting up our efforts as a means of giving glory to God.

‘Tis a rare moment to see our Sis. Gladys Chamberland actually seated down. If she’s not climbing ladders hanging up decorations, she would be bustling about in the kitchen.

At right we see a sample of Gladys’ creative handiwork, recycling someone’s old Calypso costume to create a paper doll. Guess whom of the four people pictured on the right did it belong to? Clue: not the ladies...

It was nice of our former Assistant Pastor Edwin Kulling to come up all the way from Langley where he is now the Pastor of St. Nicholas Church.

Our Caribbean-Canadian parishioners encouraged us to sample genuine calypso cuisine, courtesy of Calypso Foods, Inc. We did request them to put the spicy stuff on the side, though...

Our youth contingent… Rafael Teotico, Fedora Furtado, and Mikhail, Gabriella and Robert Mendonça

Bro. Rick & Sis. Lyce Rozario did a great job prepping our Knights and their wives for this evening...

Bro. Wayne Mackey did a superb job making sure the crowd stayed on their feet dancing.

At right, we were transported by a steel drummer as a Caribbean slideshow played on the screen.

Emcee Philip Barnwell does not believe in half measures...

But why are all these beautiful people just sitting…? Time to stir things up!

That’s more like it! 6855 is now bona fide calypso-cool!
