Dear Parents, Staff and Students,
We trust everyone had a wonderful break, ready for an excit-
ing Term 2.
A HUGE THANKS goes out to PTA and all volunteers who
assisted in the planning and running of our Colour Challenge
activities, ‘Obstacool Course’ and Colour Challenge which
was such a great way to celebrate the end of Term 1. Thanks
also goes out to all who supported this event by sponsoring
participants and cheering them along throughout the day.
As advised previously all sponsorship books and money were
due back at school by yesterday, Wednesday 18th April. For
those families who registered through the online portal, access
to the portal will end on Wednesday 25th April so please en-
sure all prizes are selected by then. Thank you again to every-
one who helped make our Colour Challenge such a great suc-
cess. We will update you with the total funds raised as soon as
all calculations are completed.
Thank you to Kylie Wallace, Caroline Jones, Leanne Sait,
Louise Cherry and Joshua Ayres for their care and watering of
our newly established gardens during the holidays. It was
great to come back and see our new plants thriving.
Last year we were one of 15,849 schools who participated in the Woolworths Earn and Learn Program. This week we
received a delivery of over 260 new take home readers to support and boost our reading program. A special thank you to
everyone who collected and participated in the rewards program.
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Kismet Park is excited to be participating. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recogni-tion of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 7 September 2018.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Chil-dren from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certifi-cate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Hon-our Roll. If you would like your child‘s name to appear on the Honour Roll, please sign the form that will be sent home next week return it to your child’s teacher.
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc

2. Slop on SPF30+ broad spectrum sunscreen (remember to
reapply it before going outside).
3. Slap on a wide brimmed hat that shades the head, face,
neck and ears.
4. Seek shade.
5. Slide on some wraparound sunglass-
es (labelled AS 1067).
The Sunbury RSL invites all community members to attend

Members of our Junior School Council will lay a wreath on

School Wide Positive Behaviours What is the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Approach? Kismet Park Primary School is launching the SWPBS approach. This is a whole school approach to creating an
environment, which encourages effective learning through the development of a positive, calm and welcoming
atmosphere. We encourage positive feedback to students often and endeavour to teach students how to behave
appropriately. We recognise that learning social skills and socially acceptable behaviours is a process, which
everybody moves through at a different pace. Learning appropriate social skills is seen in the same light as
learning how to read or complete maths. Some people need more assistance in some areas and less in others.
IN THE CLASSROOM
Initially, classroom teachers will work with their class to introduce the matrixes for non-classroom teaching areas
to clearly define expected behaviour within the school. These will be explicitly taught for one hour each week to
teach, model and reinforce expected behaviour. Social skills are also explicitly taught within the curriculum.
New School Values:
As part of School Wide Positive Behaviours we are revamping our School Values to include:
-Be Respectful
-Be Responsible
-Be Safe
-Be a Learner
Students will receive certificates at assembly alternating fortnightly between Classroom and Specialists. Next
week will see the first of classroom awards presented to our students at assembly.
