Background Information
• This is my 9th year teaching at Dryden!
• I taught 2nd grade for 7 years. This will be my second year teaching Kindergarten.
• I got married in May 2014.
• My husband Kyle and I live in Arlington Heights.
• I am a triplet, and have two brothers.
• I have a Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership and endorsements in reading, language arts, social studies and middle school.

Literacy
Much of our day is spent engaged in literacy activities.
Reading Writing Listening Speaking
We utilize a workshop model for both reading and writing instruction that encourages scaffolding and a gradual
release of responsibility as children move from modeled reading and writing to independence.

Our goal is to help children feel comfortable with writing and to build their confidence as they learn to match letters with sounds.

Measurement and Reference Frames– Using nonstandard units of measure, identifying coin values, time

Math Instruction
We use a problem-solving approach based on everyday situations.Key mathematical ideas are repeated over time in slightly different ways.Learning takes place through age-appropriate, playful activities.Math homework provides opportunities to “do math” at home!

Similar to “Show-and-Tell”Great opportunity for children to learn about each otherEach child will be assigned a week during the year to bring in some photos and 4-5 items that help us get to know them.Items can be placed in the bag provided and brought to school on the Monday of your child’s assigned week.Parents are invited to come in to read a story on the Friday of their child’s week at 11:30 am/3:15pm.
Homework
Reinforces the skills and concepts being taught in class and promotes responsibility.Weekly Homework Routines– Please check your child’s Take Home Folder and book
bag on a daily basis.– Continue to read aloud to your child daily. It is one of
the best ways to help your child develop the knowledge needed for later reading success.
– Practice naming letters and sounds– Practice reading sight works quickly

Please remember to have your child wear gym shoes on gym days and return their library book on book checkout days.

We take a working snack break. Please keep snacks simple/finger food friendly.Please do not send juice or water.
