Keys to a successful living

Most important topic

•The topic of success is widely discussed, debated and desperately desired

•This is the most important topic I will ever handle in church;

•Therefore pay particular attention;•You have to make a decision to put it

practice.•The story of Stanslavsky Lech in Krakow•The difference only happens when we put

what we hear in practice (John 13:17).•Examples two people:

Motivation to change

•Change in your life only takes place when you are motivated to change, make a decision to change and consistently act on the information that motivated you to change.

•It is not the big things we do once in while that make who we are, it is the little things we do consistently.

•Dieting once or twice in weak does not make loose weight.

Questions on Success

•Why do we want to be successful?•What is success?•How many people here think they are

already successful and why?•How many people think they are not

successful and why?

Definition of Success

•Dictionary Definition of success: •Success is achieving the goal that one has

set for himself; it is achieving what you have been desiring.

•My definition of success:•Success is achieving physical, mental,

emotional, social, financial, spiritual wellbeing while maximizing your potential.

CHARECTERISTICS OF SUCCESS• MANY PEOPLE SEE SUCCESS ONLY IN TERMS

OF MATERIAL POSSESSIONS;• SUCCESS IS MULTIDIMENTIONAL• SUCCESS IS PROGRESSIVE - IT IS A JOURNEY

AND NOT A DESTINATION;• SUCCESS IS NOT AUTOMATIC – IT MUST BE

PLANNED FOR;• SUCCESS COSTS – IF IT WAS NOT SO MANAY

PEOPLE WOULD HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL• MEANS DIFFERENT THINGS TO DIFFERENT

PEOPLE• IT IS PERSONAL • IT IS FIRST INTERNAL AND THE EXTERNAL• IT IS FIRST VERTICAL AND THEN HORIZONTAL

MULTIDIMENSIONAL NATURE OF SUCCESS•PHYSICAL ASPECT – IT IS DIFFICULT TO

FEEL SUCCESS WHEN YOU ARE SICKLY•INTELLECTUAL ASPECT – ABILITY TO

EXPAND YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THINGS – ACQUISITION OF KDG.

•EMOTIONAL ASPECT – ACHIEVING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE;

•SOCIAL ASPECT – ABILITY TO GET ALONG WITH OTHERS OR INTERPERSONAL SKILLS;

MULTIDIMENSION NATURE OF SUCCESS•FINANCIAL ASPECT – ABILITY TO MEET

YOUR BASIC NEEDS AND DESIRES OR WANTS;

•SPIRITUAL SUCCESS – ULTIMATELY HAVING A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS ULTMATE SUCCESS- WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT A MAN---

Implications of success•Success is first vertical and then

horizontal

Self

Implications of the definition of success•It helps you to be content without being

complacent•There is something to be grateful about

your life today;•It helps live in the present without

ignoring the future;•Some people live only the past, others

present only while others still only live in the future;

•It enables you have good success Josh 1:8

Helps you to live a balanced life

• It makes you to maximise your potential

WHAT POTENTIAL IS?▫Potential is the DORMANT or untapped

power and abilities in you. ▫The story of an eaglet among chickens▫ We only use 10% of our potential the rest

goes to the grave,▫Those who use 20% are called geniuses.▫The storage capacity of your mind can fill

two twin towers;▫Most people can do more than they think

they can.▫The power to create is in us Eph 3:20;▫You should know the power of the mind.

Human Potential•You cannot exhaust your potential if you

lived 100 lifetimes. •Your brain has 20 billion cells, each of

which is connected to as many as 20,000 other cells. The possible combinations of ideas, thoughts, insights that you can generate are; equivalent to the number of one followed by eight pages of zeros (Brian Tracy, 2004).

Examples of exploitation of human potential

Leonardo Da Vinci (1452 – 1519)

•He was an Italian polymath: architect, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, inventor mathematician, musician, and painter;•He notably conceptually inventing a

helicopter, a tank, the use of concentrated solar power,

•a calculator, a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics, (earth movements)

•the double hull (safety of ship), and many others.

•Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were feasible during his lifetime.
