Vienna is always searching for new and meaningful ways to keep residents and patients active community members Several months ago Vienna’s Administrator saw a documentary about a program called, “A Heart to Serve” and he knew we had our next community partnership. “A Heart to Serve” is a program that was created at Rockport Facilities by a gentleman named Matthew Lysobey. He created the program because he saw a need in his community with many people going hungry and a need his residents felt to be contributing members to society. Now residents at facilities throughout California are solving both of these problems by preparing and serving food at homeless shelters every month. When we asked Matthew about the program, specifically the name , he told us this:
“A Heart to Serve” is because we believe that anyone with a heart to serve should have the opportunity to serve their community. If some one has tremors due to Parkinson’s Disease, but has A Heart to Serve, they should be able to serve. If some can only use one side of their body due to a stroke, but they have A Heart to Serve, they should be able serve. If someone’s brain is not working the way it should due to Alzheimer’s Disease, but they have A Heart to Serve, they should have the opportunity to serve. If you search YouTube for “Rockport Healthcare Services”
This June, Vienna’s Resident Council is proud to announce we will join this call to action. Residents and patients are invited to join in our very first meal prep and delivery on June 15th. We will be preparing a chef salad, and serving it at Lodi’s Salvation Army for their women and children’s group. Vienna’s program will be called “Serving Smiles”. If you have any questions or would like to be involved, please contact Jamie Vilinskas, or Ester de Santiago.
I’ve been feeding people my whole
life, why stop now?
June 18th is a the day we celebrated our Dads. In honor of these men we love so much, lets take some time to
celebrate our dads with one of their favorite things…. Bad jokes. More fondly referred to as Dad jokes.
1. What time did the dad go to the dentist? Tooth hurt-y 2. Did you hear about the guy who invented Lifesavers?
They say he made a mint. 3. A ham sandwich walks into a bar and orders a beer.
Bartenders says, “Sorry, we don’t serve food here.” 4. Why do chicken coops only have two doors? Because
if they had four they would be chicken sedans. 5. “Dad, make me a sandwich!” Dad, “Poof! You’re a sandwich!” 6. Why did the Clydesdale give the pony a glass of
water? Because he was a little horse! 7. Me: “Hey, I was thinking…” My Dad: “I thought I smelled something burning.” 8. How do you make a Kleenex dance? Put a little boogie in it! 9. Two peanuts were walking down the street. One was
a salted. 10. I used to have a job at a calendar factory, but I got fired because I took a couple of days off. 11. How do you make holy water? Boil the hell out of it. 12. Two guys walk into a bar, the third one ducks. 13. I had a dream I was a muffler last night. I woke up
exhausted. 14. Me: “I’m hungry.” Dad: “Nice to meet you hungry, I’m Dad.” 15. I asked my dad for his best joke. He replied, “You.” 16. Me: Did you get a haircut, Dad?” Dad: “No, I cut them all.” 17. After stubbing my toe… Dad: “Do I need to call a toe truck?” 18. How can you tell if an ant is a girl or a boy? They’re all girls or they would uncle. 19. What do you call a man with no nose and no body? Nobody nose. 20. At a restaurant… Waitress: Careful, that plate is hot! Dad: It’s okay, so am I. 21. What do you call a fake noodle? An impasta! 22. Reversing the car: “Ah, this takes me back…” 23. What sits on the lawn and is Irish? Paddy O’Furniture. 24. I used to be addicted to the hokey pokey but I turned myself around. 25. Why doesn’t Dracula have any friends? Because he’s a pain in the neck.
In honor of all you great, pun loving dads out there...
Happy Farters Fathers Day!

replied. Full of wonderment, I turned to Steve in the backseat,. “It’s her!” I said. My faith had been worthwhile. I’d been shown in an unmistakable way. I didn’t see Jan for awhile after that day, and I had moments of doubt about the reality of it all, but the magic of that evening stayed with me. Maybe it would make a better story if we were high school sweethearts or met at a church social, or something. But I’ve learned that god meets us where we are. He touched us in a small Lodi bar, and the course of our lives forever changed. All my Best, Jim
Meeting Jan was part of my journey. I’ve learned that the road we follow is as different and individual as each of us. It only ask that we be open to what it shows as we travel. I’ve come to trust that. In the years after the last island adventure, I often talked with my friends about finding our “other half”, the one who would make us feel complete. Maybe a twin soul who would make two as one, or a soulmate, someone we’d been with since the beginning of time. The idea held me. I didn’t know how true it might be, but something of it called me. I’d gotten divorced, in my happiness, I was doing more harm to my family than any food that might come from staying. My ex and I stayed good friends, and when she shared a house with a guy who worked on a ranch near Lodi, I visited often. I liked Steve and went with him to the Del Monte, a little Lodi bar with a couple of poll tables. I enjoyed shooting pool. The people there were friendly and I began going there a few times each week. It had been nearly a year since I’d left my ex, and I still had hope of finding that special one. I’d been drawn to a couple of women, but nothing came of it. Dreams seemed to show that I hadn’t met her yet, but I wasn’t sure. It might be someone I already knew. When it happened, I could only trust that God would let me know for certain. On Memorial Day, Steve went with me to the Del Monte. I was sitting on my stool, holding my pool cue and waiting for an open table, when the front door opened and Jan walked in. It was like in the movies. Time seemed to stop. Every-thing except her seemed to fade, and I watched her walk by me. I’d never experienced anything like it. When she signed up on the chalk board for her turn at the pool table, I introduced myself and commented, “Jim and Jan. Goes well togeth-er.” Later in the evening, I invited Jan and Steve to my car for a smoke. AS we got in, I asked Jan, “Can you feel it too?” “It’s like two halves coming together.” she
