WEST OHIO COMMUNITY ACTION PARTNERSHIP
JUNE 2020
provide a meal delivery for our Head Start families. Each week, our staff with the help of the Ohio Army National Guard, have loaded our buses with food and delivered meals and snacks. We have been fortunate to be able to distribute food to 216 families, which includes a total of 491 children. We thank the Army National Guard, West Ohio Food Bank, various staff members and our bus drivers for making this possible for our Head Start families during this time.
West Ohio CAP continues to partner with local agencies to provide non-congregate shelter to homeless families who need to quarantine or isolate to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus in shelters and our communities. We
have been grateful to maintain a full operation of services these past months during the pandemic to support the essential emergency services in the communities we provide resources to.
Our top priority remains the health and safety of our staff, customers and communities. The next step is to work diligently to construct a plan of action as we move forward during this pandemic. We understand that it is critical to thoughtfully consider issues that are likely to arise, as well as instilling workplace safety protocols for all individuals, especially the most vulnerable populations. Remember, we are in this together and we are here for you.
MAKING AN IMPACT
COVID-19 RESPONSE
We have found ourselves with another month of performing our services virtually, but it looks like things are beginning to look up and move in a positive direction. West Ohio CAP has continued to actively respond to the changing conditions to fulfill the needs in the communities we serve through areas such as food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, masks, gloves, housing and shelter, Head Start, and much more. We continue to be mindful at balancing safety with responsiveness to the communities’ needs.
We are hopeful each day that we will be able to have our Early Head Start and Head Start students re-turn for those who attend during the summer months. West Ohio CAP is putting much time and consideration into a plan that protects the health, safety and well-being of our students and teachers upon return. The teachers miss the children and are looking forward to seeing them again!

Since the end of March the Home Based staff (along with the
classrooms) have been working hard from home to serve the Early
Head Start and Head Start families. From referrals, to Zooming, to
weekly activities being sent out, the staff has been working as best
they can using what talents they have to engage their families.
Some of the teachers have created videos of them reading books
and sending to their families. Almost all the teachers at one point
and time have video chatted with their families. The teachers
have been doing great at sending out activities for their children to
work on while away from their regular visits. While it was a
challenge at first for some of the teachers, they all have done a
great job reaching and engaging their families while continuing to
serve them. They can’t wait to get back into the swing of things,
but for now Angela, Ginger, Jen J., Wendy, Jen S., Sarah, & Katrina
work from home serving the families.

evolving changes we currently face.

TREATS
BOOKS
On a hot summer day, a little girl finds ways to entertain herself and stay cool. She catches a butterfly, sips lemonade, jumps in a pool, and goes on a picnic. At night, she sees an owl in a tree and a frog in a pond, and hears leaves rustling. Before long, she's fast asleep, dreaming about more summer days and summer nights.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT Since we are unable to do an event at this time, here is a fun experiment
you can try at home with your family!
Empty jar
4 T. cooking oil
Food Coloring
Water
Bowl
Paper Towels
Spoon
Begin by filling a jar with 3/4 cup of the way with water. Set this aside
In a bowl, combine 3 T. cooking oil along with 3-5 drops of food coloring for each color you are using
Use a spoon to stir the food coloring into the oil. It will not mix, but stir-ring will help to break the food coloring into smaller droplets
Now, pour the container of oil into the jar of water
After a moment or two, the oil will settle at the top of the jar, but the food coloring will begin to shoot down and mix into the water, creating a “fireworks” effect!
