Why Does JSETS Exist?

• All 406 MHz emergency beacons must be registered

• DoD decided to maintain their own registration database

• Original concept included visibility into JSETS from the USMCC

– Capability was never developed

– DoD and NOAA are working together to resolve the issue

JSETS What It Includes?

• Beacons coded specially for a DOD program

• Off the shelf beacons used by the DOD

5

JSETS When To Use It

• Registration info on USMCC alert message says “See JSETS” (usually in Owner name)

• Alert message for an USA coded beacon that is not registered

JSETS/USMCC Limitations

• The USMCC has no visibility into JSETS (only accessible from “.mil” sites)

• JSETS contains a number of beacons that the USMCC is not aware of because they do not fall into “special programs”

• USMCC in no way guarantees the accuracy of information in the JSETS database
