Concept: An analysis of a box of matches became a generator for a narrative about a man who went for a hike in the woods and dropped his sketchbook in a bonfire. When he went home he built a case to preserve his charred sketchbook. Ironically the case was
similar to a box of matches.

Flexible learning environments indoor and outdoors, group spaces or more private one-on-one instruction accommodate students needs.
Breakout spaces provide different learning environments and break up the interior circulation. An orientation point uses graphic symbols to help direct students to rooms.

concept
Inspired by the client’s vision of a literal wave covering the site full of curved buildings, the Sinnovate Technology Hub is about the flow of information and organic growth.
The entire site works as one fluid network: combining data and learning into one cohesive campus.
Jonathan Shaffer // Sinnovate Technology Hub
Encompassing approximately 400,000 ft2, Sinnovate Technology Hub is part of Saudia Airlines’s ambitious vision of providing training to new Saudi graduates to become future technology leaders to support business, research, and academic needs in Saudi Arabia and the surrounding region, while offering best in class data center and cloud services to businesses
locating at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC).

Shade Canopy | WaveThe Wave is a shading system comprised of steel lattice work floating over the central courtyard area between the buildings. The system provides shade while allowing air circulation. Photovoltaic panels mounted to corresponding panels in the carpark contribute to campus power generation.

This is most typical facade type to the project. The first layer is a curtain wall system. To shield the glass from heat, glare and protect it from dust, a two-layered perforated metal screen was designed. The two layers of perforated pattern produce a moiré effect by rotating the outer layer of the pattern a few degrees. This pattern appears to move relative to the viewer and is reminiscent of Islamic pattern-making and the play of light underwater.
