manageseditorialprocessesandproductionworkflows,includingcommunicationamongtheeditorial/productionteam.TheEditorreportsandconsultsatregularintervalswiththeDirectortodiscusseditorialstrategyandobjectivesandmeetseditorialgoalswithinthefinancialresourcesavailable.ReportingtotheEditoraretheEditorialandProductionCoordinator,theCirculationandProductionCoordinator,aTranslator,CopyEditorandDesigner.Thisisafull-timeone-yearmaternityleavecontractpositionrequiringanaverageof40hoursperweekcontingentontheproductioncycle.Workflowfluctuatesaroundbimonthlyprintproductionperiods,intensifyingoverathree-tofour-weekperiodeachcycle.TheEditorworksprimarilyintheofficebutmaycompletesomeworkoff-sitesolongascommunicationduringregularofficehoursismaintainedwiththeofficestaff.Responsibilities:AsTheDanceCurrentisasmall,not-for-profitorganization,thepositioninvolvesawidevarietyofresponsibilitiesandtheidealcandidatewillenjoyworkingwithinacloselycollaborativeandresponsivecontext.Responsibilitiesofthepositionincludebutarenotlimitedto:

• Developingandmaintaininginnovativeandefficientmulti-mediaeditorialstrategyinlinewithorganizationalobjectives.Usingorganizationalreportsandmeasurementstofocusandadaptlong-termplanningtopromoteorganizationalsustainability.

• Curating,planningandintegratingmulti-mediacontentforexistingreadersandnewtargetmarketsincollaborationwithstaffteam,editorialadvisorsandcontributingwriters.

• Editingandpreparingallcontentincludingsubstantiveandstyleediting,fact

checking,directingphotosourcing,andproofing,workingwithdesigneronlayoutsandapprovingfinalcopyandprint/digitalfilesforpublication

• Developingrequisiteun-creditedwritingandothersupportingcopyincludinganeditorialforeachprintissueandforsomeemailnewsletters.

• Implementingeditorialandproductionprocessesandworkflows:settingschedules;

maintainingoperationsmanualsanddataentry/trackingrecords;collatingmonthlydigitalengagementstatistics;managingcommunicationsanddeadlinesfortheteam;ensurestimelyproduction,publicationandposting.

• Managingtheeditorialbudget;hiring,commissioningandcontractingcontributors.ActingasHRLiaisontoallcontributors,ensuringcommunicationofcontractualtermsandconditions.Preparingandcollectingrelevantdocumentswithrespecttocontributorpayment.

• Supervising,developingandmentoringeditorialstaff,emergingwritersandinterns

byprovidingguidanceandofferingfeedback

• Contributingideasandhands-onsupporttotheorganizationalstrategyinsales,circulation,marketing,sponsorshipandfundraising

• Collaboratingonorganizationalvision,grantwriting,implementingstrategicplans

andplayingaroleinthestewardshipoftheorganizationRequirements:Thesuccessfulapplicantwillbeavisionaryindividual,capableofsupportingthecurrentprogramsoftheorganization,andcontributingtotheorganization’sgrowth.TheEditor’sprioritywillbetomaintainanddeveloptheeditorialexcellenceofthemagazine,inprintandonline.Theywillpossess:

• Abachelor’sdegreeinEnglish,Journalism,Communications,orarelatedfield(required)

• Significanteditorialexperienceinperiodicalpublishing,bothprintandonline.Alternatively,significanteditorialexperienceindigital,bookore-bookpublishingmaybeconsidered.Curatorial/dramaturgicalexperienceindance,theatreorperformancewiththerequisiteexceptionallanguageandeditingskillsmayalsobeconsidered.

• Hands-onexperienceworkingcollaborativelywithwriters,photographersandartdirectorstorealizeaneditorialvision

• Appliedknowledgeandhands-onexperiencewithdigitalmediaandonlineeditorialmodels,withtheprovenabilitytorealizeinnovativecross-platformeditorialsolutionsforasmall-scale,nichepublication

• Abilitytoworkindependentlyandaspartofasmall,dedicatedstaffteam,providingleadership,communicatingavisionandmotivatingstafftoachieveit

• Excellenttimemanagementskillswithabilitytomulti-taskandmeetdeadlines

withoutfailinafast-pacedenvironment
