become an artist Had an amazing

imagination Helped change the

art world

Miro’s Family His father was a business man and did not

want Joan to do something silly like be an artist, it didn’t pay enough

Joan went to art school when he was 14 His parents made him go to a regular

school and learn how to be an accountant He only lasted a year and when back to art

school at 19

A New Artist Miro went to

Paris very soon after

He met many important artists there at the time like Picasso, and Matisse

They inspired

Abstract Art Abstract Art was

just beginning then in Paris

Abstract means the artist paints or sculpts an impression or what he feels or imagines, not exactly what he sees

Surrealism Means “Beyond what is real” Not concerned with what the artist sees

around them, but what the imagination tells them

Tried to get in touch with the “Unconcious” part of the brain

Were inspired by dreams and imagination
