The Return of the ViolinTold through the eyes of Holocaust survivor Sigmund Rolat, Return of the Violin is the story of Bronislaw Huberman, a Jewish boy from Czestochowa, Poland, who plays the violin with such virtuosity that a nobleman presents him with the gift of a priceless Stradivarius, which he uses to dazzle the composer Johannes Brahms. Years later, after becoming one of the great classical musicians of his day, the violin is stolen. Unbroken, Huberman flees to Palestine before World War II, creates an orchestra that would become the Israel Philharmonic, rescues hundreds of Jewish musicians from certain death in Nazi Europe, and is hailed as a hero before he dies. Fifty years later, his beloved violin surfaces when the man who stole it makes a deathbed confession. The instrument is sold twice and finally acquired by world-renowned violinist, Joshua Bell, for a jaw-dropping $4 million.
A “Reel Conversation” follows with narrator, Sigmund Rolat, the New York-based Jewish philanthropist and Holocaust survivor who made this movie possible.
This film is sponsored by Good Friend Electric – The Rosen Family, Neuropsychology and Counseling Associates – The Gordon Family, and Toms River Fitness and Aquatic Center.

Above and BeyondIn 1948, just three years after the liberation of Nazi death camps, a group of Jewish American pilots smuggled planes out of the U.S., trained behind the Iron Curtain in Czechoslovakia and flew for Israel in its War of Independence. This band of brothers not only turned the tide of the war preventing the possible annihilation of Israel at the very moment of its birth; they also laid the groundwork for today’s Israeli Air Force. Above and Beyond presents a little-known story filled with heart, heroism and high-flying chutzpa.
A “Reel Conversation” follows with Nancy Spielberg, producer.
This film is sponsored by Exquisite Caterers, Dr. Allen and Mrs. Hagit Morgan in honor of Dr. Harold Morgan, Dennis and Shelly Newman, Premiere Surgical and Vein Center – The Kaufman Family, and Ronen Rotem, DDS.

Run Boy RunA compelling saga of courage and compassion, Run Boy Run tells the extraordinary true story of eight-year-old Yoram “Srulik” Friedman who escaped the Warsaw Ghetto in 1943 and lived in the woods, hunted by the Nazis. Taken in from the harsh winter by a kindhearted farmer’s wife, he is given shelter and a new identity: Jurek, a Christian war orphan. The innocent yet intrepid boy escapes from village to village, working odd jobs while danger lurks everywhere. Some will help him survive and others will betray him in his solitary struggle to outlast the Nazi occupation and keep alive his Jewish faith.
A “Reel Conversation” follows with Dr. Marcia Sachs Littell, internationally recognized Holocaust scholar and educator, and Professor Emeritus of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the Richard Stockton University of New Jersey.

Gett: The Trial of Viviane AmsalemAn Israeli woman seeking to finalize a divorce (gett) from her estranged husband finds herself effectively put on trial by her country’s religious marriage laws. In Israel, there is neither civil marriage nor civil divorce; only Orthodox rabbis can legalize a union or its dissolution, which is only possible with the husband’s full consent. Trapped in a loveless marriage, Viviane Amsalem has been applying for a divorce for three years, but her religiously devout husband, Elisha, continually refuses. His cold intransigence, Viviane’s determination to fight for her freedom, and the ambiguous role of the rabbinical judges shape a procedure where tragedy vies with absurdity and everything is brought out into the open for judgment.
A “Reel Conversation” follows the 1:30pm screening with Keshet Starr, Director of Advocacy and Legal Strategy, Organization for the Resolution of Agunot (ORA). Rabbi Jeremy Stern, Executive Director, ORA, will facilitate the conversation following the 7:00pm screening.
This film is sponsored by Cardiology Consultants of Toms River, Dr. Dennis H. Lyons, OD and Ellyn Lyons, and Howard and Jane Butensky.
