Update on STAR dataUpdate on API and AYP statusHow We Prepare Our StudentsQuestions

California Standards Tests (CSTs) CST results are used for:

◦ API calculation (state)◦ AYP determination (federal)◦ Informing parents – STAR Report (comparable

schools)◦ Informing teachers in planning instructional program◦ Informing CVUSD Multiple Measures

California Modified Assessment (CMA) grades 3-5

CA Standards Test - Mathematics% of students Proficient or Advanced

Course of study and sequence is driven by California standards, frameworks, and blueprints (we do it everyday!)

District common assessments (multiple measures) aligned to California Standards

Test Prep Strategies– teaching students how to “navigate” (using Test Ready materials)

Scheduling appropriately: breaks and snacks! Remind students that the “test” is their time

to “show what they know!”

Released CST questions:

B   dreams C   freeze D   patched

Results 50% of students gave this response. (Correct Response) 12% of students gave this response. 10% of students gave this response. 28% of students gave this response. Note: Percentages may not total 00 due to rounding.

1.3 Decoding and Word Recognition: decode two-syllable nonsense words and regular multi-syllable words.

Support the “show what you know” message

Extra sleep (no homework!) and hearty breakfast

Minimize absences and tardies◦ Jan thru May is “crunch time”◦ Best place for learners to test is in their learning

environment◦ Majority of testing is May 7-9 (T, W, Th)

Beyond the Bubble Test

Students choose the answer (60%)

Not limited to multiple choice (40%)

Newer methodology allows for more complex question types and greater depth

The student now has to look at each part separately and decide whether 2/5 can take different forms

There are 16 ways to respond to this item. Guessing the correct combination is much less likely than the traditional 4 option selected-response item

Computer adaptive: questions will vary depending upon student accuracy

Students will be required to justify their thinking with evidence from the text; no longer just multiple choice options

Passages will focus on non-fiction and non-fiction text features (charts, captions, etc.)
