• What do you think it would be like to live in a country divided into two parts Suppose that part of your family lived in the other half and you could not visit or communicate with them. How would you feel?

Discussion

• What is the DMZ and what is its purpose? How and why did South Koreas become an industrial Success? How did the political system in North Korea keep the country from industrial and agricultural success? What stands in the way of reunification of the two Koreas? How could reunification help both Korea's?

Critical Thinking

A country needs to diversify or produce many kinds of products and services to ensure economics survival and prosperity. What might happen to a country that produces only one or two kinds of products. How would they need to obtain goods that you did they produce? What might happen if demand decreased for the few products that they do produce?

Answer the questions on a sheet of paper. Don’t forget to write your name and “Critical Thinking” at the top.

Background

• The Korean War was the first war in which the United Nations played a major role. The war began on June 25, 1950, when communist North Korea invaded So0uth Korea. The United nations asked the invaders to withdraw. When this did not occur, they asked member nations to aid South Korea. Sixteen countries sent troops, and 41 countries sent military equipment, food, or supplies,. The war ended on July 27, 1953, when the United nations and North Korea signed a truce.
